Ten years ago today (September 19), Wasalu “Lupe Fiasco” Jaco released his seminal album, Food & Liquor, which quickly took the Chicago MC from relative obscurity to worldwide recognition. The lead single, “Kick, Push,” revealed his love affair with skateboarding and earned him two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance in 2007.

In honor of the occasion, Fiasco dropped a Soundcloud recording of him reflecting on the 10 year anniversary today titled “Ten Yurrs Layda.” In the caption, he explains, “You only get to do your first one once. I don’t do interviews, but I will record myself talking to myself lol. 10…Remembering is hard but it’s fun lol. Enjoy. Happy Anniversary!”

During the hour-long recording, he covers things like his passion for anime, shooting the Food & Liquor album cover, and his attraction to Japanese fashion. While Fiasco is sometimes embroiled in mild controversies, such as Twitter wars with Joe Budden or trolling trolls on Kanye West’s website, he has proven to be one of Hip Hop’s best assets.
