I appreciate Drake’s music. I’ve been a listener since Room For Improvement in ’06, and while not in the music business, when I heard “Do What You Do”, I knew this dude had flow, and that homey could make a name for himself. When I heard his “(C)Kraft, single, cheese, process” line off Comeback Season, I knew he had bars to go with the flow, and it was only a matter of time.
As a Canadian, I know that success in the urban music field within Canada is non-existent. Most urban artists strive for the commercial success that goes within such a large market like the U.S. And knowing that is what most artists strive for, I salute Drake for achieving that WITHOUT an LP to his name.
With that said, I also understand that for you to have success, you must also have your detractors. Some of you hate, just for the sake of it, or to come off as not following the prevailing opinion. And that type of attitude speaks more to the type of individual YOU ARE as opposed to why you dislike something/someone. It’s demonstrated in the petty cheapshots in the comments made as to why you dislike a song/person. I believe in a world of positivity, yet rather than offer something constructive that an artist can take and grow, people belittle and tear down. And that’s sad.
It’s that divisiveness that will continue to keep people down.
Back to topic-Drake writes as though he’s in his 30s-40s. He sounds like he has an old soul with his lyrics (like Anthony Hamilton does with his voice). He has matetrial that crosses age groups, and I think that’s going to be key to his success (too bad about not getting Sade though).

I’ve been a listener since Room For Improvement in ’06, and while not in the music business, when I heard “Do What You Do”, I knew this dude had flow, and that homey could make a name for himself. When I heard his “(C)Kraft, single, cheese, process” line off Comeback Season, I knew he had bars to go with the flow, and it was only a matter of time.
As a Canadian, I know that success in the urban music field within Canada is non-existent. Most urban artists strive for the commercial success that goes within such a large market like the U.S. And knowing that is what most artists strive for, I salute Drake for achieving that WITHOUT an LP to his name.
With that said, I also understand that for you to have success, you must also have your detractors. Some of you hate, just for the sake of it, or to come off as not following the prevailing opinion. And that type of attitude speaks more to the type of individual YOU ARE as opposed to why you dislike something/someone. It’s demonstrated in the petty cheapshots in the comments made as to why you dislike a song/person. I believe in a world of positivity, yet rather than offer something constructive that an artist can take and grow, people belittle and tear down. And that’s sad.
It’s that divisiveness that will continue to keep people down.
Back to topic-Drake writes as though he’s in his 30s-40s. He sounds like he has an old soul with his lyrics (like Anthony Hamilton does with his voice). He has matetrial that crosses age groups, and I think that’s going to be key to his success (too bad about not getting Sade though).
