The irony is that Bishop was contractually denied by Interscope from putting out The Reformation before Detox. When that Dre-produced record Grow Up found its way on the radio and was already proving itself to be a big hit, Interscope sent cease-and-desists because they said it would distract from Detox. If Bishop never left Aftermath, he would never be allowed to do shows, release singles, or do anything of his own free will, and for all the years of work, writing, and patience he put into label politics, Detox, and his own projects that never saw the light of day and may never have anyway, they pretty much stabbed him in the back and put him in a situation he couldn’t do anything or get anything for it.
Bishop walked away but he did it without selling his soul. It’s a damn shame he didn’t blow up like he deserves but I’m still looking forward to when he finally puts out his album under his own control and freedom even if it’s taking as long as Detox. I don’t know where the 700 Aftermath-era masters went, if they’re too aged for him to put out now, or if he’s taking so long to rework and make something out of the beats, but I respect this dude all the way and he deserves support. I give more a shit about his debut LP than Detox anyway.
