FAT SHOUTS TO HIP HOP DX! THE PEOPLES CHOICE! WEST COAST STATE OF MIND!

I’m playin’ but DJ Envy’s not and that’s the sad part. Off top, Envy comes off as a half-ass wanna-be DJ Clue. He says the same shit, says it the same way, and tries to say it in the same voice. Blok Party Vol.1 could’ve easily been The Professional part 3 (for Clue’s sake, thank God it wasn’t).

The album is a smorgasbord of the who’s who list in rap plus 3LW (how cute), but when they’re just doing it for shout outs on Direct Effects and not giving it their all over production only suitable for mixtapes. What’s the point.

“2 Ill” featuring Foxy Brown, Loon, Coke and XO is annoying as fuck, Murphy Lee catches his first brick with his solo song, and Desert Storm’s camp is well, not as dope as they think they are( Question, how can they justify saying Joe Buddens is the next dude). Plus, did I mention that the production was only suitable for mixtapes, meaning cds that don’t cost 15.99 fully packaged in stores.

Thankfully, there are some decent tracks. Jay-Z donates a verse and a half on “H.O.V.A.” Redman brings the Kool-Aid to the party on “So Vicious.” And Lloyd Banks rips “What Goes Around,” and calls out Ja, Ashanti, Black Child, and Charli Baltimore So much for Envy and Clue saying they’re weren’t any diss records on here.

Unfortunately for those in attendance the wack shit greatly outweighs the dope shit. You’re better off staying at home, than attending Envy’s Blok Party.
