Speed. Speed, and more speed. It’s all about how fast one can go. Before the Fast and the Furious made it’s way to the silver screen; there was a whole generation of people who had a knack for fast cars. There has also been a long following of individuals who have the same addiction for speed by riding fast bikes. In the new movie Biker Boyz that desire for speed is almost exemplified on the screen. However, that same speed is not exemplified on the soundtrack.
The Biker Boyz soundtrack creeps in a turtle like fashion and really does nothing to stir up new sounds or inventive creations. Now I love all kinds of music but if you are going to combine Alternative, Rock and Hip-Hop, it should be done with the vigor of classics by Run DMC like “Rockbox” and “Walk This Way.” These songs were true musical gems that combined the raw talent of artists who understood the music that they were making. Now that’s not to say that there aren’t any shining moments on the soundtrack but they are far and few in between.
Kalifornia” by Mos Def is a tribute to the state of the same name. The slow melodic groove along with Mos’ flow is reminiscent of “Umi Says”. Mowett and Loon floss on ‘Tru Rider.” The track is crazy but it’s another jacked beat. It originally comes from the song “Africa,” from 80’s pop group Toto and most recently from Ja Rules Last Testament album. Mowett’s crooning is sweet and hot as fire. Then of course there is the heat that radiates from Swizz Beats’ “Big Business.” The remix of Non Phixion’s “Say Goodbye To Yesterday” is full of strong street, religious and life living subject matter. The production by Necro is eye opening also. “Don’t Look Down” by David Ryan Harris is a simple melody about uplifting ones self by never looking down on life no matter what obstacles life throws you.

Over all the soundtrack could have used some help to strengthen some of its areas but none the less it does have a few…shining moments.
