With the holiday season come and gone, it seems rather tacky to be reviewing any holiday fare material. But alas, some things are better left late, and “Friday After Next” the original soundtrack, fits the bill.
With a few noteworthy yuletide influenced tracks, this album makes a great stocking stuffer; but hardly warrants a run to your local record store if Santa didn’t put it under the tree.
“Friday After Next” features 14 tracks provided by a diverse groups of talents such as: 50cent, Krayzie Bone, Westcoast Connection, and The Temptations. Definitive standout tracks include: “Just Chill” performed by Flipmode Squad, “Bad News” by 50cent, and Nappy Roots with “Got All’At”. A nice diversion on this compilation movie soundtrack is the inclusion of some OBG’s. For those of you not acquainted with the Canadian equivalent of MTV; Muchmusic, an urban music show hosted by a VJ named “Master T” introduced this acronym to the masses in Canada. It simply stands for “Oldies but Goodies”. Silly, I know, but I digress – songs from the Temptations, Eartha Kitt, Donny Hathaway, and Leon Haywood round out this album with “OBG’s”!
If you spot this one going for cheap in the New Years sale CD bin at your local CD store, pick it up. The sultry, smooth Christmas songs at the end of the album are almost worth the price of admission, but the rest of the album is too mediocre to warrant a full price purchase. To a New Year, and the hope that Ice Cube will kill the Next Friday franchise, while he’s ahead…
