Naughty always made you dance. The Grammy-winners were a party staple in the ’90s. Times have changed and Naughty By Nature are celebrating 10 “official” years in the game by releasing a CD that boasts hot production and A-list guests.
The dangerous duo Red and Meth (beware: guest duo may outshine hosts) combust on the Underdogz-produced, bass-thumping “Rock N’ Roll“. Wild child Pink lays it on thick on the Junod-produced “What U Wanna Do,” bringing a sexy strip club vibe on the chorus reminiscent of TLC’s “Red Light Special“. And Carl Thomas reinvents his R&B style, crooning with reggae-inspired vocals on the track “Naughty By Nature,” produced by Da Beatminerz. Though there are more excellent guests like Bumpy Knuckles, Redman’s artist Icarus and Queen Latifah and funky tracks including “Red Light,” “Wild Muthaf**kas” and “Rah Rah,” a classic hype song that’ll turn dance-floors to mosh pits, often times Naughty’s lyrics are simple and flows too familiar.
But as Vinnie boasts on the radio-ready first single “Feels Good” with 3LW: “How many years have we proved we can do this/How many people we inspired to pursue this,” sometimes it’s not if you win the game, but just staying in it.
