Who in the hell thought KRS One would release a gospel album?

In his 20 plus career, KRS has released up nine albums, this being his tenth, and even last year’s Sneak Attack showed no signs. But now, the South Bronx veteran is back with a new twist on hip hop called Spiritual Minded.

As a gospel album, it is something never SUCCESSFULLY tried before. The title is switched from his previous release Criminal Minded and shows that Kirk, Hammer and even Mase may try but only KRS can reach a certain level of success.

With features including Fat Joe, Rampage of the Flipmode squad and production handled by KRS himself and others, you wouldn’t guess that this is a gospel album. And that’s what makes this album so intriguing.

Tracks like “South Bronx 2002“, “Good Bye” and “Take It To God” bang like street jams. Even “Never Give Up” with its Cantonese chorus sounds like a club jam. The first track “Lord Live Within My Heart“, with its hard bass has KRS flowing with lines like, “Bomb diggey/ How many rappers can actually rhyme with me/ My style is that Cristal its witty/ And they style I have no more Faith like Biggie.”

With flow like this, and production that takes you back to the ole KRS, this album marks new ground in the land of gospel albums. And with a heavenly message that is apparent throughout, KRS One could have the first cross over gospel rap album.
