If you never say one nice thing about Bad Boy owner, Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs, you have to say that he always has a crew behind him. From Craig Mack, Biggie, Mase, Lox and now comes the new era of Bad Boy. Besides Whoa child Black rob making his own name for himself, the next MC to step out of Bad Boy’s gates is G Dep. And he throws out his first album Child Of The Ghetto. And he kind of falls into a category that a majority of rappers are falling into these days.

With the majority of the production handled by the Bad Boy Hitmen, the album features the Bad Boy family, Mark Curry, Loon, Carl Thomas, black Rob, Shyne. But also featured on the album include artists suh as Kool G Rap and Rakim.

Starting the album with ‘Everyday‘, which drags on a bit, he comes through with ‘Special Delivery‘ which is a definite club filler. ‘Keep It Gangsta‘ featuring Shyne holds water, ‘Doe Fiend‘, which takes the sample from Eric B and Rakim’s Microphone Fiend is a trip to the old school and, of course, ‘Let’s Get It‘ featuring Black Rob and P Diddy, which started that whole “shaking shoulders” dance.

In the sea of success comes a few waves of failure. They include Smash on the ‘First Night‘ featuring May, Blast Off, ‘I Want The World To See‘ and ‘One Way‘ featuring Black Rob. Although they have the Bad Boy touch, they reek of the “we’ve-heard-it-before” smell.

With a sample on te majority of the tracks, it makes youi think that Puffy, sorry, Diddy, is going back to his old ways and he is taking his crew with him. G Dep’s debut drops in a sea of MC’s who rap about the same thing but have a little bit more charisma. Although he is not a lyrical challenger, he slips into the obscurity of rap’s rememberance service.
