YG Says Producers Are “Jocking” DJ Mustard, Points To Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”

While making a promotional run in the UK, Compton rapper YG stopped by TimWestwoodTV for a freestyle over Drake’s “0 to 100.” Touching on his recent commercial success and name-dropping his hometown, the My Krazy Life artist also referenced Iggy Azalea’s hit single “Fancy.”

Hinting that the production team behind “Fancy”—London based trio The Invisible Men—borrowed heavily from DJ Mustard’s production style, YG rapped, “they jocking.”

“And DJ Mustard, that nigga producers is they jocking/ ‘Fancy,’ don’t it sound like he produced that shit?” he rapped while on the show.

The Los Angeles beat-maker produced the bulk of YG’s recent debut as well as singles like Tyga’sRack City” and 2 Chainz’I’m Different.”

In May, Mistah F.A.B. claimed that DJ Mustard had taken his approach to production from a Bay Area style. “We created a sound in the Bay Area and it took several years for it to catch on,” F.A.B. said at the time. “The Mustard sound that’s pippin’ right now…That was created in the Bay Area. We not mad at it at all. I’m not mad at it because I’m still able to get in and do what I do.”

While freestyling for Westwood, YG also made note of his album’s success, rapping, “They thought I was a one hit wonder, now I got three hits and a classic album up under my muthafuckin’ belt.”

YG’s “My Nigga” single has been certified platinum and the album itself debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release in March.

    1. get real mane. mustard didnt invent that sound or jacked it from the BAY. anyone can make a mustard beat in 15 minutes, even if you never made a beat before.

      1. You disrespecting OG producers like EA SKI,TC and the Enhancer, K-Lou,Khyree,Mike Mosley and Sam Bostic by saying he jacking from bay but then say anyone can make the beat in 15 minutes.

        R.I.P. MAC DRE THE G.O.A.T.

R.I.P- Cougnut, The Mac, Hitman and Mr.C from RBL,Killa Keise,Seagram

    2. Every DJ Mustard beat sounds exactly the same. He has like three variations. No one wants to jack his trash.

    3. Everytime I hear that :Mustard on the Beat, Ho: drop on the radio(which is effing often), i change the channel. KMEL, please stop playing this guy, he sucks, and he’s not paying respect to the Bay

      1. thats half of the songs in rotation throughout the US right now why do you listen to the radio anymore?

    4. They thought I was a one hit wonder, now I got three hits and a classic album up under my muthafuckin belt.

More like you just got one hit and a mediocre album.

    5. Fact of the matter is, dude is one of the most sought after producers in Hip-Hop right now. So who ever is asking, why would anyone want to copy his style must be oblivious to that. They want to copy it cuz he’s winning right now.

    6. DJ Mustard is perfect if you wanna hit it BIG in the mainstream pop rap radio stations. But you want anything more than that, then this guy is limited to work with (because his style is pure pop rap oriented). And I have to agree with a slew of comments below. His style is very much the same in all his beats and anyone can make beats like that in minutes (if you’re a serious producer, amateur or pro).

      1. Lol nyc niggas is still sayin “mad”

Do yall still say “word up” and call everyone your “son”??? Lmao

      2. Word up son we may not rap like new yorkers anymore but we still tawlk like em son, word, we aint on dat stanky leg shawty ya hearrrd meeeee

    7. Nigga his shit simple as fuck.Real producers aint respectin that flavor of the month shit.Shits like 10 tracks total. Get you some basic 808 drums, a ‘yeah’ in the background all the time and you already half done lol….

    8. Have you Bay area nig gas been hearing the trash music coming out the bay area? Oakland ain’t had no quality ish for a long time. Mustard beats don’t sound like nothing coming out of the O rt now. Put the blunt down nig gas! Bay area cats was busy rapping over wack hyphy beats and now want to claim a sound they ran from!

    9. yg is correct. my krazy life was one of the best from 2014 thus far, along with black hystori project, and cocaine pinata

    10. i hate dj mustard but the women dont! if u can make these hoes dance u gonna win! as long as these whites and jews running hip hop we wont see any talent

      1. haha what?
arent the whites the reason “real hip hop acts” can still get money on the road?

    11. Like i always say. folks said dr.dre, timbaland, swizz beatz and pharrell beats all sound the same.. look at them now.

      1. No, they didn’t. Dre, Timbo, Swizz, and Pharrell have variety in their production unlike Mustard.

      2. no variety???

        Produced by Swizz

        Drake – Fancy
        DMX – Party Up
        Busta Rhymes – Touch It
        Jay – Money Cash Hoes
        Alicia Keys – New Day

And that’s just joints off the top of my head

    12. As a producer, and ive produced records on Major artists from the west including records with Snoop, Daz, WC, DJ Mustard’s sound will burn out, #1 hes charging way too much for his tracks, which any nigga with fruity loops can make, #2 His sound isnt really that authentic, R.I.P Young Jeezy….sounds like a Too short record which is an old Bay Area sound from the 90’s. Im glad MUstard is getting his money the nigga use to be the Impact Record Pool Dj, so hes coming up, but he shouldnt ever get to the point where he feels like hes that dude with longevity unless he gets to the point where he can become more musical with his tracks. Because that 4 note 4 bar loop is gonna get played quickly.

    13. I still say YG’s “My Nigga” sounds a lot like “I got 5 on it” by Tha Luniz from like 20 years ago…

      1. ….cuz of that one sound?

you know what sounds like i got 5 on it? “i know” by yo gotti and “heaven or hell” by meek mill…..

      2. That is the stupidest most ignorant track ever makes me ashamed to be a fan of hip hop but i cant even consider that trash hip hop

    14. A classic album? lol It’s sad that having 1 platinum single means your album is a success. It used to be where you actually had to do numbers, and if you flopped, you were gone.
