Los Angeles, CA

will.i.am, D-Nice and others are teaming up to help those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires with a special (and star-studded) livestreamed event.

Modeled after D-Nice’s Club Quarantine, the virtual dance party series that swept social media during the global COVID-19 pandemic, L.A. Check In will feature “uplifting” DJ sets from D-Nice and DJ Hed, along with appearances from surprise celebrity guests and hometown heroes.

Organized in partnership with the Annenberg Foundation, will.i.am’s i.am Angel Foundation and actor-philanthropist Etienne Maurice, the benefit event will also provide updates on vital resources for victims of the devastating blazes, inform viewers how to donate to relief efforts, and offer stories of hope and resilience to keep spirits high in the City of Angels.

L.A. Check In will broadcast live from will.i.am’s FYI Campus on Thursday (January 16) at 6 p.m. PT and will be available to stream on his YouTube channel and D-Nice’s Instagram page.

“Families and students across the city urgently need our support as many lives have been disrupted, including losing everything in the fires,” will.i.am said in a press release.

“Teaming up with fellow musicians and the Annenberg Foundation for fire relief is what the community needs right now to connect us and activate those who wish to donate and volunteer.”

D-Nice added: “Club Quarantine was a way for people to find community all over the world through love of music and culture. The music I played at that time was secondary to what was really happening, which were the conversations and connections that people were having.

L.A. Check In will leverage Los Angeles’ star power while reminding one another of the resilience we build and have in each other.”

DJ Hed also stressed the importance of the event, saying: “When disaster strikes, it reminds us that despite our differences, we’re all in this together. L.A. Check In is just another beam of light we hope to shine into a dark time.

“Nothing is going to repair the sentimental damage suffered but through this we hope to assist as many as we can as a team.”

Since erupting last week, the wildfires have claimed the lives of at least 25 people, although that number could rise as parts of L.A. continue to burn down.

Powered by strong winds and dry conditions, the fires have destroyed thousands of structures — including homes, schools and businesses — and entire neighborhoods, while roughly 180,000 people have been forced to evacuate.
