Jhené Aiko‘s home has been destroyed in the devastating fires sweeping through Los Angeles, but she is thankful that she and her family are safe.
Taking to her Instagram Story amid the second day of harsh winds and fires in the southern California region on Wednesday (January 8), the singer said: “Praying for everyone this morning. Those who lost their home. Those who lost their life’s work, those who lost their life. Praying for my city. Praying for the wildlife and lost pets. Praying for the world [heart emoji] let suffering be a gift; a lesson in compassion.”
Later that day, she revealed she’d suffered the loss of her home.
“Me and my children’s home is gone [heartbreak emoji] burned to the ground with all of our things inside. Lord have mercy [prayer emoji] thankful we still have each other [heart emoji] Starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy [heartbreak emoji].”

Upon the news hitting the blogs, people began leaving insensitive comments about her financial status, insisting she doesn’t deserve sympathy or to even feel sad because [they assume] she has the means to build it all back. But Jhené had a response to that.
“The fact some of you think I have Paris Hilton money is wild,” she retorted in the comments of The Shade Room. “I don’t got it like that, but I do have a big, loving family that is worth more than anything. [heart emoji] When I was in the second grade, our home burned down with everything in it. I never understood why some of the kids at school were so mean about it, because they thought we were rich when we weren’t. But they thought we were rich because we had love!
“My family and our friends came together and made sure my mom and me and my siblings had at least 1 new sweatsuit and 1 pair of shoes the very next day. I am fortunate enough to be in a better situation than back then. And I pray I can have as much grace as my mother did during that time. I work very hard for my family. I pray that you all stay safe. [heart emoji] God bless.”
As several enormous blazes continued to burn down parts of the city, fellow Los Angeles native The Game announced that he is helping to provide safety and shelter to families who have been forced to evacuate their homes.
