Wale is plotting a return to music and has found a new label home by signing a deal with Def Jam Records.
According to TMZ, Folarin inked a contract with the famed label several months ago, but had kept it under wraps until now.

The D.C. native is set to kickstart the next chapter of his career with the release of a new single on Friday (October 20), which he teased on social media earlier this week.
“My silence has been golden….see you on Friday,” he wrote on Instagram. “Folarin back.”

He also seemingly alluded to his new deal by writing on his Instagram Stories: “There’s no potential in a friendship that comes with intentions.”
While his upcoming track will open his Def Jam account, Wale has already lent one feature to his new label family by hopping on Nigerian rapper/singer ODUMODUBLVCK’s “Blood On the Dance Floor” earlier this month.
Meanwhile, news of the former MMG member’s impending return has already been welcomed by Joe Budden, who expressed his excitement for his new music on an episode of his titular podcast earlier this week.
“I’m excited about this,” Budden said, per TMZ. “Not because he finally learned to take a step back and go radio silent via social media that’s one of the reasons a lot of you Wale haters out there dislike him. He went crazy a few times.

“He was able to disconnect, dis-attach, step away and he’s been quiet. I don’t know what he’s been doing, feeling, thinking and now I get a song. I love that for Wale.”
Wale’s last album arrived in 2021 with Folarin II. Prior to that, he delivered his Wow… That’s Crazy LP in 2019. Both were released during his time with Warner Music, which he joined in 2018.

Before his brief Warner stint, he released music under his joint venture with Rick Ross‘ Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records.
Wale has bounced around the industry quite a bit as he started his career on Interscope Records, which released his debut LP Attention Deficit in 2009.
