Waka Flocka Flame feels that he has to hide his joy from the outside world – by which he seemingly means his new relationship – and the idea isn’t sitting well with him.
The Atlanta native hard launched with his new love, who he identified only as “Big Mel,” on Instagram earlier this month. However, he was immediately met with pushback from fans who had gotten to know and love him and ex Tammy Rivera as a couple over the years. The pair split in 2022 after eight years.

Taking to his Instagram Story on Thursday (January 18), Waka got vulnerable about how the comments affected him.
“one of the toughest pills for me to swallow in life for me is i gotta hide my happiness… man i’m built for it but this shit stinging,” he wrote.

Speaking to HipHopDX following his split from Tammy in August 2022, Waka Flocka Flame acknowledged there were plenty of things he could’ve done differently to prevent a divorce.
When asked if he imagined going through a divorce on television, he responded sternly: “Fuck no. I chose this life 14, 15 years ago, the whole relationship, when I chose to get in this arena of being a celebrity, so it is what it is.

“It’s definitely depressing with egg on your face, but when it’s like, for me, it just feels more comforting to say, ‘Man, I feel like I caused it.’”
He added: “That’s me being a bigger man. That’s not saying me, I’m the reason that we split. That’s not the reason. There’s no reason. That cheating stuff, that shit happened eight years ago. The reason we split is … there’s no reason […] It was just a mutual feeling.”
As he prepared to re-enter the dating pool a few months later, Waka shared a meme making it clear that he’s not with the games this round.
“To be honest getting back into dating is wild,” the meme read. “1 red flag and ima ghost you [laughing emoji]”

In the caption, Waka added: “my patience is limited for various reasons and i been thru way to much to settle …. @debra4mizay Ma please stop sending me your potential daughter-in-law’s they crazy.”
Looks like “Big Mel” checked off all of his boxes. Her Instagram profile, besides containing cuddly IG Stories with Waka, says that she is an educator and has six degrees, and is also a Fashion Nova ambassador.
