Viral List Ranking Rappers From “Elite” To “Trash” Provokes Response From A$AP Rocky

A list ranking a series of rappers from elite to trash has been circling on the internet this week and caught the attention of at least one of the mentioned names. A$AP Rocky, who was deemed “overrated,” responded to his name being listed amid fan chatter about the viral list.

The list was posted two days ago via the Tea Alert Instagram page without credit given to the creator of the hierarchy. The simple, Excel spreadsheet-like layout places Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Chance The Rapper in the “Elite” class. The following tier, “Talented but not Elite,” lists Wale, Childish Gambino, ScHoolboy Q, and Big Sean among others. Right below that, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Nas are grouped in the “Legends Past Their Prime” tier.

The next tier, “Underrated,” features Nipsey Hussle, Earl Sweatshirt, Dave East, and Big K.R.I.T. among others. The “Overrated” tier highlighted names like 2 Chainz, the aforementioned A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown and Young M.A. The list wasn’t without flaw, as it ranked Mac Miller in both the overrated and underrated columns.

Rocky took to Twitter to voice his displeasure and tweeted the following: “ASAP ROCKY OVERRATED ? ?HOW SWAY? NIGGA I PUT OUT A ALBUM ONCE EVERY 2 YEARS , I SEE I GOTTA LEVEL UP ON NIGGAS ONCE AGAIN 4 2017, SAY LESS.”

So far, Rocky seems to be the only rapper to take umbrage with the list. Fans on Twitter chimed in with their thoughts as well, and we’ve collected some for viewing below.

    1. Who calls Mike Jones a legend? The fact that he’s in any category where you believe you need to discredit his imaginary “legend” status makes this list hilarious. Some of the overrated need to be thrown into the trash column which is the only credible thing about this list.

    2. EMINEM past his prime? Pick any artist on this list or anyone’s list since he started rapping and you tell me who would beat him in a battle.. Anyone? This whole generation of rap is over rated. 1) Future sings and he’s not a pro at that either. 2) Drake is more of an R&B artist who raps decent (Montell Williams shit!) 3) Asap Rocky is OK but no fucking Slick Rick either… Lol 4) I can’t rap or sing but I would feel comfortable battling anyone on your “Elite” List. No one from this generation, period, has anything special about them.. We don’t have another 2pac, never will. The rap game is empty.. No feel to it anymore just a beat, an empty one, and someone spitting blah blah shit on it or singing….

      1. eminem does past his prime. he still got the skill but he has nothing to rap about anymore. his lyrics not deep anymore, now he raps about lamest and predictable things.

    3. There is some truth to the list: Drake, J cole, Kendrick Lamar are the best of this generation but Chance is not a great lyrical rapper. Underrated list is actually good but I would put Drake there

        1. Actually the 6ix God is very underrated. He’s a great artist with a lot of haters. People always underestimate him, but he always comes out on top. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

          1. Newsflash: Drake isn’t a great artist and lot of artists have haters. Aubrey happens to be the most mainstream-friendly.

      1. She is!!! She took a hot beat, did her best impression of Bobby Shmurda, made a hit and can’t follow it up!!! Overrated!!!!

    4. this list is 60 percent accurate with the BIGGEST snub going to Pusha T……he should be in the elite tier 2 level IMO!

    5. How the fuck is King HOV past his prime? Whoever made this list should be bitch slapped for that. Take broke ass Nas out of that section and put him in Tiers 5, 6 and 7 because he’s all of those.

    6. Something is wrong with you, if you:
      – put drake in a same category with cole and king kendrick (yeah drizzy is huge and his flow is dope, but is not even CLOSE as an artist to the two mentioned)
      – think Denzel Curry is trash (macklemore doesnt belong there either)
      – call dre overhyped
      – think rocky, wiz, AB SOUL, danny brown, PUSHA T, mac miller, action, game and meek are overrated
      – say nas and hov are legends past their prime

Also, where is YG? The only thing i agree with is tier 2 and 4, woth few exceptions. This list is some BS

    7. Initially, I presumed this list was adapted merely to provoke. Anyone with common sense enough to maintain an IG would know exactly how to do so. However upon further observation, taking in to consideration the place of certain individuals (Kanye West, ASAP Rocky, Chance The Rapper, French Montana, The Game), the particular person or group who created this list is clearly lacking awareness and the ability to gauge the talent or ability of the people on the list = FAIL.

    8. J Cole is definitely overrated when niggas start trying to place him with Nas. Is Chance “the rapper” even a rapper like that? Dude sings damn near more than Drake. And Wale definitely needs to be in the overrated or trash section…

    9. the music that drake makes/buys is considered rap? can someone plz give me some songs where drake is being lyrical. maybe ill become a fan…

      1. Ransom, The Calm, The Resistance, The Ride, 9Am in Dallas, 6PM in New York, Light Up, Miss Me, Thank Me Now, Over My Dead Body, Underground Kingz, Lord Knows, Tuscan Leather, Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music, 0 to 100, Energy, 10 Bands, Back to Back, Summer Sixteen, Hype, Weston Road Flows, Fire and Desire, Views, 30 for 30 Freestyle, and that’s just the beginning. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

    10. Long story short, the list, while it got somethings right, is mainly more flawed drakes views album. Got more things wrong than its got shit right
