Vic Mensa Defends Kanye West’s Lyrical Abilities

Kanye West’s documented use of ghostwriters has often been the focal point of criticism when discussing his skills as a rapper, but Vic Mensa sees it differently.

During an interview on Hot 97’s Real Late With Peter Rosenberg, the outspoken MC defended Yeezy’s lyrical prowess by detailing his own experience of Ye’s abilities.

The defense was sparked by a discussion about the creative process behind West’s albums. Mensa described the scene of a typical studio session, which involved multiple people freestyling and throwing out lines with a mic in the middle of the actual room. But after detailing how West acts as a conductor in the midst of it all, Mensa wanted to make sure he was not giving critics more food for fodder.

“Sometimes, as they do, people try to use that and maybe attack his lyrical abilities,” he said around the 14-minute mark. “You know, say Kanye’s got ghostwriters and all this. And I just wanna set the record straight that . You know, and that’s just the truth. The things that he comes up with when nobody puts any lines in are the dopest ones.”

The interview also delves into Mensa’s relationship with Chance The Rapper, the demise of Kids These Days, activism and much more.

      1. i actually liked his album .. def better then half these new rappers out there like lil uzi kodak black and the rest of them mumble rappers

    1. Vic Mensa basically just admitted that Kanye uses ghostwriters.

“The things that he comes up with when nobody puts any lines in are the dopest ones.”

    2. The people who ghostwrite for Kanye don’t have bars as good as Kanye’s. You can listen to a Kanye track and generally have an idea of what lines are his. He is one of a kind.

    3. I just would like to know what they have to say about Vic’s debut album, they still haven’t reviewed it yet they review several other people.

    4. Kanye always been average as hell rapper if he couldnt make beats jay would of left him on the bench with the state property weed carriers.Vic Mensa never gon blow up people cant stand him even with Jay-Z backing kanye helping and chance as his best friend his album flopped like a motherfucker he fake as hell people can see thru his dumb ass persona

    5. Vic Mensa is a Menso…Kanye’s 1st 2 albums we’re entertaining as hell but after the 3rd one idk…He is not a battle rapper or emcee…And if he ever wrote his own rhymes then cool but he is just like a Dr Dre, even Pete Rock raps better than Yay. At one point he was a entertaining producer but he is no way the next Pete Rock, Premo or Ali Shaheed Muhammed…or let alone Dilla…Kanye lost his soul.
