Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper & Others React To Police Killing Of Laquan McDonald

Reactions from those in the Hip Hop community have begun to trickle in following yesterday’s (November 24) release of video footage, which shows 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being shot well over a dozen times by police in Chicago.

Most artists have reacted to the news via social media. Long Island lyricist Freddie Foxxx spoke on the hate that must have been present for a police officer to shoot McDonald 16 times.

“Only hate can make you empty a full clip on a young teenager who was obviously no threat. 16 Shots of Hate. #LaquanMcDonald,” Foxxx wrote in a tweet sent last night.

Chance The Rapper offered words of encouragement to his city, and revealed that he’ll be back shortly.

“Be strong Chicago…I’ll be back in 2 days,” Chance said in two separate tweets.

One Chicago rapper in particular hit the pavement to march with protesters in Chicago following the release of the shooting video. Vic Mensa uploaded several posts to social media as he walked with protesters last night.

One Twitter user asked Mensa why he chose to protest, and recorded his response on video.

“We in downtown Chicago right now. I just got hands put on me by police. We want justice for Laquan. We want justice for our people,” Vic Mensa said in response to the question.

    1. Was emptying a clip into the kid unnecessary and excessive? YES.

But here’s an idea: don’t brandish a blade in front of police officers and disobey their orders to stop approaching them aggressively.

      1. I’d give him life in jail for the inhumane treatment of a minor. I’d give him life in jail for murder because he should of used his taser. I’d tarnish his career and make him a symbol to all bad cops this is not going to be the last cop in jail. I hope he goes to jail. He’s a racist devil. fuck all that money hiding shit. fuck his lawyer. this is taking too long. Lock his bitch ass up. He shot a 17 year old boy 16 times. How many bullets did he need? His training doesn’t teach him to be so brutal. And they did not administer aid on the scene. this is a child that they treated like a terrorist. How are you going to arrest a movie theatre shooter but kill a little boy with a knife? how can we all see this and not be all disgusted at this officer’s actions? People say they believe in God and equal rights. People say they aren’t racist but at the end of the day if you don’t have compassion for a boy getting treated like target practice you may have do some real soul searching. The law has to be humane. The system can not keep doing this too U.S.

    2. We definitely need more artist to be involved in social issues though after the protests an marches we need ororganizations an acts of mass civil disobedience…#BoycottBlackFriday an peace the hoods of Amerikkka..#BlackonBlackLove
