Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson of The Roots has joined forces with VH1 for an online contest to seek out a producer to develop the soundtrack for VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors” awards ceremony.
Contestants can post sixty second snippets of their beats at thescore.vh1.com, where three finalists will be chosen by a panel of music industry judges. Viewers will then vote on the winner from there.
The winner will be mentored by ?uestlove and where the music will be produced for the show. The winner will also be flown to New York for the taping of the show in October.
This will be the show’s fourth year in which it pays homage to hip hop icons (whether it be artists, movies or movements). Previous honorees include: Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Boyz N Da Hood,, Wu-Tang Clan, MC Lyte and many more.
The show will air on October 8th at 10 p.m.
