Uncle Luke Lays Out Plan To Stop Gun Violence In Miami

Chicago has been a hot topic as people such as Common, Lil Durk, and others try to bring awareness to violence in the city. Another city that is riddled with violence is Miami. Eleven teenagers from Miami-Dade county have been murdered so far this year in addition to seven-year-old Amiere Castro and six-year-old King Carter. Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew lays out a plan to stop gun violence in his city to the Miami New Times.

Among his five steps are “The federal government needs to step in.” The rapper, born Luther Campbell, reminds readers of the power of the federal task forces in the 1990s that depleted much of the street gang activity in the city.

“Criminals are aware of the difference between state and federal time,” Uncle Luke writes, “the feds pretty much guarantee those convicted will serve most of their sentences.”

Another step Campbell suggests is for the school board to offer vocational courses at certain high schools. The rapper is the defensive coordinator for Miami Jackson High’s football team. He has spent many years on staff for various football programs throughout the district.

“Not every student in these schools can go to college, so the system has to teach them trades they can use after graduating,” he says.

Uncle Luke also calls for the Miami-Dade Children’s Trust to support local organizations who are providing services such as after-school care and counseling.

“The Miami-Dade Children’s Trust should send a support team to crime-ridden neighborhoods to identify the community organizations that are in good standing with the residents they serve,” he says.

    1. Luke need to stick to what he know. And that ain’t them bangas. I hope Mr. Lif make a lot of money off this new album of his. Mello Music Group for life! They need to sign Uncle Luke on some experimental stuff.

    2. how luke gonna do dat? put out another 2livecrew album with bbq sauces on its.

    3. Do not see the issue with Dr. Luke having and expressing well thought out ideas to a issue not in-line with his primary occupation. There a few cities that exceed grotessly the nation average in voiolent crimes. cheers to Dr. Luke sharing his constructive ideas!

    4. Miami is soft as hell compared to LA gang life. To slow down crime in Miami, it’s a matter of hiring like ten extra cops.

    5. hey how bout you get tougher on the gun laws. Im bored of hearing about the right to bear arms. Too many cowards who suddenly become gangsters when they have a gun. kids are getting killed and nobody seems to be doing anything. Its become to norm which it shouldn’t be.
