According to AlteredZones.com, The Roots’ drummer ?uestlove will soon be releasing a box set featuring music from iconic Nigerian musician Fela Kuti.
The vinyl box set will be released via Knitting Factory Records and will feature six albums including Everything Scatter, Expensive Shit, Fear Not For Man, Sorrow Tears And Blood, Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsense, and Beasts Of No Nation.
“It’s the story of Hip Hop,” said ?uestlove, reports AlteredZones.com. “It’s the story of taking nothing and turning it into something.”
The set will be titled Fela Kuti Box Set 1 and may possibly be followed by other box sets featuring Kuti’s music.
The story of Fela Kuti was the subject of the popular Broadway play FELA! which ?uestlove praised on numerous occasions using his Twitter account. The show concluded its Broadway run on January 2, 2011.
