The Roots’ ?uestlove recently spoke with the Associated Press, revealing his top five albums of 2011. During the interview, he named The Weeknd, Adele, Wyatt Cenac, The Lonely Island and Jay-Z and Kanye West as putting out some of the best records of the year.
“Watch the Throne is one of those records, I told people ‘You’ll be back in a month and a half,’” he said. “People were like, ‘Pf, whatever.’ All of a sudden, now, it’s like ‘Oh, this is my album!’”
He also spoke on why he chose a record from comedian trio The Lonely Island, likening them to Beastie Boys. “I really, really love Turtleneck & Chain. I like it sonically, I think it has a sense of humor, lyrically it’s funny,” he said. “And it’s a comedy record, but it’s almost like if License to Ill were made in 2010, 2011, it would have been Turtleneck & Chain.”

I respect even the comedy album picks because it’s something different, one thing I couldn’t stand is for ?uestlove to have a very generic list built up of the consensus. Id rather he has his own lane, own personality and point of view. If anything ?uestlove’s picks are alot more legit than any of us commenter’s picks.
WTT was definitely a great sounding album, if only it matched up lyrically, which is what I thought Hov would have brought to the album.
The Weeknd is definitely the future so I agree with that and Adele does her thing, she’s been made mainstream because she’s undeniable and I can respect that.
