UCLA Investigating Kanye West-Themed Frat Party After Blackface Photos Posted

UCLA students are demanding that the university take action after their peers dressed in blackface at a “Kanye Western” frat party, The Daily Bruin reports.

The party occurred Tuesday (October 6) and members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the Alpha Phi sorority smudged black makeup on their foreheads and cheeks and dressed in baggy clothing and other costumes imitating Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and other affiliates of the rapper.

“It’s extremely disrespectful for any organization at all to think that this is possibly a good idea,” Kelsee Thomas, member of the Afrikan Student Union says. “I understand the play on words, but there are so many other ways [to dress] to fit that.”

The university says it is investigating the matter and notes that students have a right to express themselves and comment on popular culture, but should be mindful of the effects their actions have on their peers.

“Put simply, just because you can do something does not mean you should,” it says in a statement.

Sigma Phi Epsilon representative Beaux Carriere released a statement to KTLA.

“We are investigating the allegations and are working closely with UCLA to determine the facts,” it says. “Building diverse and inclusive communities is core to our identity as an organization. We have zero tolerance for racist behavior. We’re ready to respond appropriately if any of these allegations are substantiated.”

    1. Damn, see some of these Rappers gives this disrespectful behavior a pass like it’s no Big Deal but then White Kids pull some bullshit like this to show us Black folks how they laugh at our culture….

    2. who cares?? what kind of difference is it going to make by giving this attention. news and cultures act like this minuscule type of “racism” is so big and scary and serious when really its just ignorant college kids acting there egotistical age. Thats normal!!!! focus on more important news.

      1. You’re white, huh? Your post is the usual “nothing to see here” response that comes when some dumb college kids use blackface like it’s all good. Maybe people should learn more about blackface despite their “egotistical age” in order to understand why it’s offensive. Maybe then we wouldn’t need you as the white herald to tell people how they should or shouldn’t feel.

    3. First up if they were wearing “baggy clothes”, it has nothing to do with Kanye West whose clothes are tighter than virgin snatch.

Second, how could the leader say they are investigating the racist behavior? They knew what the fuck was going on in that small ass house.

    4. What a heap of ****. Racism is discriminating against someone because of their race, a fancy dress party is not discrimination and therefore not racism.

      1. Dear white people,
Everything you do is arguably racist.
Kanye West skin color can be biologically and naturally darker skin than yours due to millions of years genetic adaptation and if you emulate that when you imitate him despite him being a national icon you clearly think your race is superior.
This narrative has too many prequels and I predict less sequels. I did not wrong you and neither did “white people” lol, Caucasians like myself are waking up and aren’t sorry to exist anymore.

      2. Brian is interesting you can justify the behavior life it isn’t offensive and like there isn’t a history behind mockery of people of color. Then saying white people haven’t wronged any person of color is ignorant its systematic oppression but your too stupid to get that because your white privilege allows you to not be sorry for being white.

    5. I used to feel bad for black people growing up because what I was told thru history and school and what not, but now that im grown and see the world like everyone else. I realize that black people never want to let anything go and use race as means for them to justify there actions. Everyone on the planet living today thats under 50 had nothing to do with slaves and the slave trade. Why would I have “white guilt” for something I or my family never took part of but because im “white” im supposed to be cautious of black people feeling about race? I feel sorry for people. Some people just cant live there lives in peace and its sad.

    6. Well all know the story 400 years ago a white man came to africa blah blah fuckin blah nobody did shit to you personally so just shut the fuck up and stop blaming the world for your fucked up situation

    7. A superior race? You mean the asians? Cause last time I checked I lived in America and when I walk down the street I see people off all colors and creeds. Rare to just see white people only these days. Maybe if you lives in some redneck ass town in the south but us Californians are a melting pot of everything so maybe you just need to move.

      1. I live in a redneck southern town and there is 11k black residents to 4K white residents. You fucking California fuckers have no fucking idea what you’re talking about.

    8. God damn. There are sooo many ignorant, racist white people posting on this page, who have no clue about the political and social history behind this shit and what they say and how it affects people’s lives today. You oppress people for 400 years and then give them a semblance of freedom and then say “get over it?” 400 years of oppression doesn’t just go away like that.
