Leading 1980s Hip Hop outfit U.T.F.O. is known for joining Whodini as early Brooklyn, New York represetation in the mainstream. Their song “Roxanne, Roxanne” was instrumental in creating the “Roxanne” wars, involving Juice Crew’s Roxanne Shante and U.T.F.O.’s affiliate The Real Roxanne. After five albums released between 1985 and 1991, U.T.F.O.’s Kangol Kid is said to be penning his autobiography.
Kangol Kid spoke with HipHopWired.com about his upcoming book. Among the topics covered, Kangol Kid claims he is the first Haitian-born emcee to garner national success, and that U.T.F.O. was the first Rap group to release a ballad.
U.T.F.O. still performs today. Other Hip Hop pioneers to release autobiographies include Ice-T (The Ice Opinion), LL Cool J (I Make My Own Rules) and Public Enemy’s Chuck D (Autobiography of Mistachuck).
