U-God Details Drake’s “Wu-Tang Forever” Remix

Wu-Tang Clan’s U-God recently spoke about his appearance on Drake’s unreleased “Wu-Tang Forever” remix.

“I put my verse in it,” U-God said during a recent interview with MTV. “I’m too rough. I’m too raw…I had to write my dart fast. Being down with the Clan, it gave me the skill to write fast and precise with the dart. At one time, I had to be like that in order to get a slot on the mic. You had to be swift, hard and to the point…So, I had to do the same thing. We only had two hours in the studio to write this joint ’cause we was on tour when we got the record.”

“I didn’t hear the beat ’til I got there, so I didn’t get a chance to marinate with it,” U-God continued. “So I just threw my dart how I felt. I was saying some murderous ish. I was saying some rawness. And now that I listen to the joint now, I’m like, ‘Damn, he was talking ’bout a broad.’ I might’ve been too rough for y’all, man.”

U-God confirmed that Cappadonna and Masta Killa are also set to appear on the remix to Drake’s “Wu-Tang Forever.”

Cappadonna’s ties with Drake date back to before the Toronto rapper earned stardom, according to U-God.

“Capadonna did a song with Drake before y’all even knew Drake,” U-God said. “Cap’s still got the song. He got the record.”

When asked if Inspectah Deck was involved with the remix for “Wu-Tang Forever,” U-God said he did not know. Nonetheless, he said, “Every cup of tea ain’t for everybody.”

Inspecta Deck has been outspoken about Drake’s “Wu-Tang Forever,” a song that takes its title from Wu-Tang Clan’s 1997 album, Wu-Tang Forever.

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, Inspectah Deck shared his thoughts on the subject

“The understanding that I had from the song was that we was supposed to get on it, not knowing if it was the remix or the original song,” Inspectah Deck said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I believe it was the remix. We was supposed to get on it. Given to me, from RZA, he wanted all eight of us on it. So while we were in Amsterdam, we even booked studio time to go in and get on that song and that was the understanding that I was left with.”

“I never made it on the song,” Deck said exclusively to HipHopDX. “Actually, I went back to the hotel. Late night, I left. From my understanding, Meth got on the song, U-God, I think Masta Killah, Capp, not sure. But, I know that there were verses from the Clan on the song.”

Deck also said he was not pleased with the song’s title.

“When I finally got to hear the song, I was more or less like, ‘Wow, I thought it was a tribute song like, it would be in respect of all eight members,'” Deck said. “And when I heard it, it was about a girl. I understood the context of where he was going with the song as far as ‘It’s Yourz.’ He’s saying that, like, everybody’s telling him, ‘It’s yours.’ Like, he owns it, whether he talking about the Rap game or the female. I understand in the context he’s saying it. I felt it didn’t have no bearing on the Wu-Tang Clan or Wu-Tang Forever for that matter. Besides the [fact that] I heard him say, ‘Young brother on his Wu Tang.’ That in itself gives respect to the Clan. I’m not taking that from the brother. Whatever his intentions was, I’m not saying that I’m feeling that he had some deliberate snake intentions. I’m saying that I disagree with the title of that song being ‘Wu-Tang Forever’ when it has no bearing on Wu-Tang Clan despite the fact that the ‘It’s Yourz’ sample floatin’ in the background. We sampled ‘It’s Yourz.’ That’s a sample. That’s there for the taking. It’s not like, ‘Oh, he used y’all sample.’ We both used T La Rock.”

    1. The most unskilled rapper from Wu Tang speaks. This is the only Wu member with no quo tables. Even Masta Killa raps better than U-God, FACT!

      1. You’re speaking half truths, the only quotable he has was from Da Mystery of Chessboxin’, those opening lines were the only quotables this dude has ever had. Other than that he ain’t shit haha.

    2. WTF…don’t fucking marinate with artists in the mainstream…DON’T DO IT!!, it’s gonna sit well with your fans, plus your my respect for Wu Tang just went down a couple of notches…Drake is not the type of artist you guys should be collaborating with..

    3. So U-God, Mastah Killah, and Cappadona on one track.. sounds like a disaster… I mean U-God is usually OK on Wu tracks but not really worthwhile and Masta Killah and Cappadona are absolutely terrible, I don’t care what anyone thinks. Both have weak rhymes and absolutely awful flows. Plus I’m not crazy about the beat so this probably will suck.

      1. Masta Killa is dope as hell. He has a unique off and on beat type of flow. Similar to a poet, not everyone has to rhyme the same way to be dope. Now Cappa is a different story he can be hit or miss. But Masta Killa is always dope IMO

      2. You say unique flow.. I’d say he doesn’t even have a flow at all. Dude doesn’t sound like he’s rapping at all and his lyrics aren’t impressive.
Ice Cream is a classic yes but Cappadonna still sucks regardless.

    4. yeah wu tang guys should really soften up when gettin on a drake song about a girl man cuz thats what they do right?

    5. so i guess the so called The Mightiest Crew in hiphop is not what it used to be??…i lost all the lil respect i had for that fat piece of shit RAekwon right now

      1. i lost respect for all of them years ago

it doesnt help that RZA and his bitch ass label ripped off hundreds of fans when they tried to buy Ghostface Killahs last album

      2. WTF does Raekwon have to do with this article? Stop whining Rza didn’t rip anyone off, you idiots got yourself ripped of if you talking about Soul Temple. Who pays for something on a low level site when you could’ve just went to Itunes anc copped it

      3. we were buying physical copies moron. i dont want no mp3s. i wanted the records, t-shirt, comic book, brown tape cassette, poster etc…. its not a low level site its Rza’s own label ran thru bandcamp, a very legit website.

      1. Sounds about right. None of these older cats wanna seem “washed up” so they will hop on a track with the same artist their “hip hop head” fans will lambast. Talib Kweli immediately comes to mind when I think about this type of situation. No disrespect to the Wu tho. First hip hop album I ever had was 36 Chambers.

      2. Its called being old and knowing the times have changed. I would never expect the Wu to mis-treat any of these young dudes. The game doesn’t work that way. You always Usher them in and let them be themselves. It makes no sense for the Wu to not like Drake, he’s like their kids ages smh.

    6. FUCK SOUL TEMPLE MUSIC!!!

BOYCOTT SOUL TEMPLE DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE CROOKS! RZA PROMISED US HE WAS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF BUY 3 WEEKS LATER AFTER I WAS ASSURED I WOULD HAVE MY STUFF IN 2 WEEK IM STILL WAITING AND AINT GOT JACK SHIT!!

FUCK SOUL TEMPLE, FUCK RZA, FUCK BOB PERRY, FUCK GHOSTFACE, FUCK U-GOD, FUCK TONY TOCA

      1. You still going on about this? No way you still haven’t received your 12RTD? Almost seems like a made up gimmick so many people I know got it with no issue.

      2. naw dude no gimmick. RZA has finally acknowledged the problem and they say they are working on it. The facebook group has over 350 people who all got fucked over!!!

      Ethers Drake’s Entire catalog….

    8. eveyrone knows U-God is the weakest link in the Wu-Tang chain, so he’s going to ride for the Drake remix the hardest.

      1. He still just as good as Drake Lyrically so that tells you how crappy todays’ artist are when U-God is better then almost all of them LMAO

      2. Mastah Killah is the worst and if you count Cappadona he’s far worse too. U-God isn’t a bad rapper he just needs to try more.
