Twitter Lights Up After Lifetime Airs 1st Salt & Pepa Biopic Trailer

Salt-n-Pepa became a trending Twitter topic on Saturday night (April 11) after Lifetime premiered the first trailer for its upcoming biopic about the groundbreaking Hip Hop duo.

The forthcoming film is a three-hour saga chronicling the journeys of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton — from their roots as nursing students at Queensborough Community College in New York City and their relationship with aspiring music producer Hurby “Luvbug” Azor to their meteoric rise to fame in the ’90s.

The trailer first aired during the debut of The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, which also premiered on the network this weekend. But many Twitter users were outraged the two actresses cast to play the duo — GG Townson (Salt) and Laila Odom (Pepa) — look nothing like them.

Others could barely contain their enthusiasm.

The authorized biopic, on which Salt and Pepa both serve as executive producers, is helmed by actor-director Mario Van Peebles. No release date has yet been announced.

Until then, check out some of the reactions below.

    1. People need to chill and give it a chance. Being a virtual look-a-like helps but doesn’t mean anything if they can’t bring the energy that SnP had. “All Eyes On Me” actor was damn near a dead ringer for 2pac but wasn’t even close to bringing Pac’s energy and the movie suffered more due to that than his looks. Everyone did the exact same thing after the “TLC” biopic trailer because of Lil Mama. By NO means do I like Lil Mama but she KILLED it as Left Eye.

      1. To be honest, All Eyez On Me was unnecessary. Wanna know the REAL Story? Watch the Documentary Tupac: Resurrection.
If Salt And Pepa wanna tell their story, do it in a documentary.

    2. Black people need to chill with these biopics about people nobody cares about. Show me some George Washington whipping niggas (slaves) on his property for not bringing his lemon bars quick enough. I wanna see a nappy headed dreamer in tears.

    3. why cant twitter be shut down. can almost bet 70% of those people tweeting, either 1 didn’t graduate high school or 2 get goverment assistance

      1. Spinderella was right there in Push it. She was THERE she was in Whatta Man. Its too bad those who werent even born talk sh t about women who opemed the doors for every female emcee. They wete the first to do it. They wete on the road with Kid n play and Run Dmc. They sold millions and made millions. I hope they at least told their story and. Did it justice. They have 15 million a piece. So talk about that. Thats why people dont want to reach back anymore. No respect.

    4. CRABBIE A** SEEDY , PEASIE HAIRED MUTHAS
