Twista Talks Giving Back To The Midwest

After a summer which saw 52 shootings in a single weekend, the city of Chicago is attracting the kind of attention it would rather not draw. Twista, a product of Chicago’s West side is involved in a few causes he hopes will both help curb the city’s recent outbreak of violence and bring awareness to some of the Midwest’s poverty-stricken residents.

Through the release of his upcoming documentary, “Mr. Immortal: The Life and Times of Twista,” he hopes to visually take fans inside of the city and also reflect on his 15-year career in Hip Hop.

“I hadn’t been on that level before, where I let people see Twista behind-the-scenes, how I record a song and what I’m thinking about at shows,” Twista recently told Billboard. “But I also wanted to use that as a platform to get information out about the violence in the Midwest. To me, we need to do all we can to change things and make it a little better. I’m a hip-hop artist, but I go out there and try to do my part.”

In addition to the “Mr. Immorta”l documentary, Twista also participated in Detroit radio station WJLB’s annual “Coats For Kids” giveaway along with Lloyd, Waka Flocka Flame, Diamond, Jeremih and Yung Joc. Twista says he plans to be part of another event in Chicago to donate turkeys and other meals to those in need for Thanksgiving. His eighth full-length solo album, The Perfect Storm was released last week on November 9.
