Following remarks Rah Digga made about Iggy Azalea not being Hip Hop, and other critiques the Aussie rapper has received, Trina recently came to Iggy’s defense during a newly-released interview with Vlad TV.
Trina was asked how she feels about Iggy rapping in a Southern accent and speaking in an Australian accent. According to the Miami rapstress, Iggy’s Southern accent while rapping could result from her time spent in Atlanta, Georgia and her time spent around Southern artists like T.I.
She also gave credit to Iggy for being “really dope” and questioned why Hip Hop has to be solely urban or black.
“You probably pick up that trait of being Southern,” Trina said. “Being around T.I. and that whole Southern crew. Cause they’re very Southern. Very, very Southern. So, I can see that kinda happening. I don’t see nothing wrong with that. Yeah, I think she’s dope. I think she’s really dope. She reminds me of like a Fergie. I love Fergie. Fergie’s amazing…When you say rap or Hip Hop, people expect it to be just urban or black. And I don’t really feel like you should really put a face on it.”
Trina also commented on the lack of collaborations among women in Hip Hop. She revealed that if female rappers were to come together it would be huge since “females are doper than most of the guys.”
“Women are catty,” Trina said. “I think that a lot of it stems from the people that are around. And now that we have social media…It’s made the fans and people outside have so much opinionated say-so…I just feel like that’s the bulk of what’s making the riff-raft…Honestly, if the females kind of like got that same mentality as what the guys do, it would be killer. Cause realistically, the females are doper than most of the guys.”
Later in the interview, Trina was asked about her exclusion from lists featuring top female rappers. She stated that she isn’t concerned about her ranking on such lists and is more concerned with creating music because of her love for it.
The rapper later spoke on working with Rick Ross and Trick Daddy in her early years, and receiving advice from both artists.
“I don’t really care about stuff like that,” Trina said. “I’m not trying to be like the Jay Z of Hip Hop. You know what I mean? I just love music. I’m not the one that was a child like ‘I want to be rapper. I’m just shopping a demo. I’m just out trying to make it.’ That wasn’t my thing. So, for me it was more like—It was something I grew, I learned. I was always writing though. But it was always more because I like music. I wasn’t really sure about it. And I wasn’t really sure [with] the whole lyricist thing. But once I put it together and because I loved music and it was melodic, it was something I knew how to do…Most of the time it wasn’t even on the right beat. It wasn’t—The bars were way too long. It was kinda all bad. It wasn’t until I got with Trick and Ross and it just became on point.
“Rick Ross is the guy that I looked up to as a brother,” she added. “And I would go in the studio and Ross would be writing. It was like all the guys. And I’m like the only girl. So, I would just be in there all over the place. And I would do stuff. I would do a verse and I would go in there and I would be like ‘Okay, listen to this. How does it sound?’ And he would say ‘Too many bars. Take this off. I don’t like it. Change it. Go back in there again. Go harder. Say something that every guy could feel like they want you and every girl could feel like they wanna be you.’ And then I would just get in my mind and think of designer and fashion and this and money and cars…That’s how it came out like that.”

Why the fuck do people keep saying that? Why didn’t Slick Rick pick up a stereotypical NY accent despite being from the UK?
Rick Talking voice is extremely NY. I no means am I defending Iggy, but tha was a lame point.
I wouldn’t say “extremely” NY. He picked up some of it, but you can still hear the British accent when he speaks.
She “picked up” her faux accent from imitating a girl from Atlanta named MamasGunz, she totally raped her whole style.
Trina been washed up, she’s trying to get a Iggy collabo.
This tramp called Iggy “dope”. In Order to be DOPE in Hip Hop you have to have dope LYRICS and a dope FLOW! She has neither
“When you say rap or Hip Hop, people expect it to be just urban or black. And I dont really feel like you should really put a face on it.”
WHAT?1??? This bitch lives in a different World, come back to Planet Earth. NOBODY thinks or expects that.
We have too many good white rappers out here, get rid of Iggy and sign somebody with TALENT!
Just the fact that she has to change her voice/accent in order to rap is Racist.

Mc Lyte, Rah Digga, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, to name a few yes are dope!…but Iggy is trash irrespective of her race, she’s wack just like you Trina….totally wack!!!!
trina is a horrible rapper too..thats why she defends her
Trina is only saying that because Iggy lied and said Trina influenced her in an interview recently. Just like Iggy promoted Nas when he lied and said something good about her. It’s the game they play these days. Are we dumb enough to fall for it? NO. Trina sucks and so does Iggy, and Nas is a sellout slave. Tic Tac Toe.
Always good to see people see through the bullshit and see things for what they really are
You’re dumb. Why is Nas a sellout exactly?
Trina is right, she’s smart enough to know that the more faces you have in the Rap game is the more fans you get and the more fans of rap means the more money in Rap for everybody….It’s all business baby!
Too bad for trina, iggy does not sell that much LOL! All that clit hugging ain’t gonna boost her sales up. It is a sad state when Blacks are ready to call out their own, but let the White biters who are trash have more success then them. Trina I think your slave master is calling you…
you can get Trina has a house slave for less than 3K
Why would Trina look up to Rick Ross if she been around way the fuck longer?
Rick Ross was behind the scenes at Slip and Slide and had record deals with Suave House and Erick Sermon for yrs.
You people are like dogs howling at the moon, you can’t stop it from rising and shines but yet you still howl.
Stop wasting your time Iggy don’t need your approval to succeed, you’re just talking to yourself.
