Travis Scott and tennis legend John McEnroe recently came to verbal blows over the name of their Nike Mac Attack sneaker collaboration.
On Saturday (December 10) a video clip surfaced on social media in which the rapper can be seen in a Zoom meeting with the tennis champ and other Nike executives discussing a redesign as part of McEnroe’s partnership with the athletic footwear and apparel giant.

In the clip, McEnroe voices his disapproval of Scott’s suggestion to name the kicks Cactus Jack and instead demands the line be called Cactus Mac. “God damn it, Travis. Jenny is right, okay, let’s have a little bit of compromise,” said McEnroe.
Despite La Flame’s attempt to explain “Cactus Mac was never a thing…” McEnroe wasn’t willing to budge and took the feedback as a slap in the face, exclaiming: “Come on, man! Show some respect! This is my shoe!”

Maintaining a calm demeanor, Travis explained, “I’m not really like feelin’ it. It’s like something about it feels off…like selling burgers or something.”
He continued, “We ain’t trying to take none of that away from you. Ain’t trying to disrespect. I ain’t trying to do anything like that. Trust me. I know more about the value of the shoe than anybody else. But, right now, the young ragers really the ones kind of pushing me for what is going on right now. I mean, you got to trust me on this.”

The meeting came to an abrupt end when the tennis icon stormed off, yelling “Forget it.” Others on the call can be heard calling out for McEnroe to return, but he had already left the meeting.
In June, Nike announced the revival of the sports icon’s signature shoe called the Mac Attack with Scott leading the charge on the redesign.
The shoe shipped in a white, light silver, and black colorway, with mesh and leather detailing.
“The classic silhouette from the 80’s is back with the Attack, inspired by the hot-tempered spirit of tennis legend, John McEnroe,” Nike announced during the marketing campaign.

That same month, the Utopia rapper faced off with the Mr. Deeds star in an effort to promote the sneaker.
“Gotta get low,” the Nike-sponsored musician says in the “Rebel Like the OG” ad that debuted on June 12. “Man, you ain’t said nothing for a thousand. Say no more, what we doing?”

McEnroe, one of tennis’ biggest bad boys during his heyday, replies: “Come on, here we go. Let’s go hit a few. Get a tennis racket.”
Neither party has commented on the leaked meeting footage.
