Today, the tracklisting to Lupe Fiasco‘s third solo album, Lasers, were revealed. The 1st & 15th/Atlantic Records release features longtime collaborator Sarah Green, along with top male R&B singers Trey Songz and John Legend. Earlier this week, “Words I Never Said” 
was released, featuring Skylar Grey, and produced by Alex da Kid.

You can totally tell the record label screwed this album. Shining Down and I’m Beaming are not even on here anymore because of the stalling, and both were hot. Shining Down should have been a hit. I thought I’m Beaming was the first song on the album, Atlanta dropped the ball. I still don’t understand the logic behind scewing over an artist who has a strong, consistent fanbase and has gone gold WITH BOTH STUDIO ALBUMS despite being COMPLETELY original. SMH. As if Lupe was not going to sell, he might not now.
I’m buying it regardless, Lupe has unheard of talent and versatility and hopefully this won’t happen again. Don’t fix what’s not broken, Atlanta.

It might have been. I’m pretty sure it was suppose to be the first single for whatever album he was planning at the time, but I don’t think it was for LupEND. He never made a video so there are no credits or anything, it just kind of leaked lol. I’m Beaming was def. suppose to be here though.
Shining Down was going to be the first single from the first disc of LupEND (Everywhere) but when LupEND got shelved he was going to pass on the single. But hype built up around it until it finally leaked, and Lupe decided to release it as the “first single” from Lasers. When it didn’t chart as well as he hoped (probably had to do with Michael Jackson dying the same week), he forgot the idea of it being an album single completely (hence, no music video).
I’m Beamin’ was going to just be a normal track from Lasers, the first song actually. It also leaked and the positive reception it received prompted the label to release it as a single. It also did not chart well, although a video was made. Since it came out over a year ago, there was really no reason to keep it on the album.
Shining Down was fantastic, it’s the most played song on my iPod actually (surprisingly). I’m Beamin’ was something I could never get into with that Neptunes production so I won’t miss it.

I am actually a bit disappointed that over 4 years, and only 12 tracks. I mean every single track is going to be fire no doubt, Lupe is the greatest alive with the exception of Nas, but the album should be larger. I know Lupe has hundreds of songs. I just blew 160 plus bucks to support Common, Lupe, Outkast, D’angelo, & The Roots. My money only supports quality hip hop. But to be real “Words I Never Said” & “SLR” are the last quality cuts he put out in a while. I copped all his mixtapes and listened to the singles he put out so far and I’m not sure Lasers is worth buying. I’ve been listening to “Failure” & “Pressure” because that’s the artist that made me a fan. Lupe last couple of songs have been wack. I don’t know what standard you hold Lupe to but last year showed Lupe has fallen off. I defy you to quote any verses as good as Dumb It Down which came out almost 4 years ago. The last crazy song I heard him on, “Don’t Stop” is two years old. I’m not a beast like Lupe with the pen but I appreciate consistency. If you disagree put on Food & Liquor then listen to Shining Down and tell me its the same Quality. Tighten up son, Andre 3000 drops two or three verses a year and the quality is still there.

C Star I’ve been listening to everything he has put out since Food & Liquor. Solid tracks are not good enough for someone who only put out 2 lp’s. I know he went through ridiculous label politics, but The Clipse and Big Boi dropped near classics after going through the same kind of problems (more or less. And Enemy of the state was lame. Not his verses, but the length of the mixtape. The only thing more lame was the defense that it was short but sweet. If you are known for delivering quality than why give us so little quantity with it.Really!? a mixtape under 1 hour?! If his CD is worth it I’ll happily spend my dough. If you ask me Freddie Gibbs has taken his place. Flow, lyrics, quality content, he could end up the next ‘Pac. (I’m not comparing Lu & Gibbs by who has better lyrics.)
