The Too $hort-narrated film Freaky Tales starring Pedro Pascal, Normani and more has officially released its first trailer.

Inspired by $hort Dog’s 1987 single of the same name, the action-comedy film follows four interconnected stories set in the rapper’s hometown of Oakland in ’87.

As the logline describes, it’s a “multi-track mixtape of colorful characters — an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis and a debt collector — on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles.”

In addition to Pascal and Normani, Insecure’s Jay Ellis, the late Angus Cloud of Euphoria fame, Black Panther‘s Dominique Thorne and even the legendary Tom Hanks all appear in the MACRO-produced movie, which premiered at Sundance in 2024.

Freaky Tales hits theaters on April 4.

The film and its rollout will likely be a welcome distraction for Too $hort, who lost his older brother late last month.

According to Oakland police, 61-year-old Wayne Shaw was shot on January 29 on a sidewalk as multiple people attempted to ram a vehicle through the entrance of a weed dispensary.

Shaw reportedly went outside to confront the attempted robbers but was shot, with the culprits then fleeing the scene. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead by paramedics.

In two back to back posts on Instagram the following day, $hort shared videos of himself driving to clear his mind, at times taking his glasses off to wipe the tears that were coming.
