Tony Yayo Gets Into Heated Ice Cube Vs. Biggie Argument On ‘Drink Champs’

Tony Yayo and DJ EFN have engaged in a spirited debate over who’s the better rapper between Ice Cube and The Notorious B.I.G.

During an interview with Drink Champs shared on Saturday (July 8), the G-Unit rapper and the Miami DJ gave their own perspective about both legendary artists. While Yayo went with Biggie, DJ EFN decided to run with Ice Cube as their personal pick of who’s the G.O.A.T.

When DJ EFN declared that Ice Cube was his pick, Tony Yayo was in pure disbelief, asking the Drink Champs co-host if Cube had better verses than Biggie, to which he emphatically said: “Yeah.”

From there, after DJ EFN said, Ice Cube’s 1991 diss record, “No Vaseline” from Death Certificate was better than Biggie’s 1997 track, “N-ggas Bleed,” off of Life After Death, chaos ensued.

“This is why I hate this industry shit,” Tony Yayo said. “So you telling me Ice Cube is a better storyteller than Biggie? You fucking buggin! You lost your fucking mind! Ice Cube is better than Biggie as a storyteller? You fucking buggin n-gga! You lost your fucking mind!”

The two men continued to debate on which artist reigned supreme before the 45-year-old rapper admitted that Cube was “fire.” Tony Yayo kept doubling down on DJ EFN being crazy before both men turned to others in the room to help support their particular choices.

Check out their full exchange below:

Within the same interview, Tony Yayo revealed that he doesn’t feel that New York, as a whole, has had a lot of luck with its Hip Hop stars as of late — and a lot of its bad luck has to do with the unfortunate murder of one of its hottest up-and-comers at the pinnacle of his career.

Pop Smoke — like, I wish he would have stayed in the hotel over the AirBnB,” he began. “Rest in peace. But, that kinda fucked New York up. New York was coming back, bro. We had Pop Smoke, we had all these drill n-ggas startin’…A Boogie. But Pop was…you know.”

He continued: “Now, New York is worse than Chicago. And California with the drill, because n-ggas is throwing like n-ggas dead friends in there. When we had battle raps with Ja Rule and them, n-ggas was still alive. […] But there’s no remorse with the drill music. N-ggas shooting little kids.”

The “Fake Love” rapper also talked about rappers who are facing RICO charges.

Yayo previously spoke extensively about Young Thug — who, himself, is facing a wide assortment of RICO charges — but he believes that the Atlanta native will beat the charges against him.

“Thug coming home, man,” Yayo said in an interview last month. “The case … it sounds like a clusterfuck, man. Free Young Thug, man. And you know, it’s like, when you look at the shit, it’s like, he’s a high-profile guy. So, it’s a clusterfuck. You know?”

He went on: “Even moving them around, it’s like, he’s high-profile. This is everyday shit, though … It’ll just make the news because you’ll hear ‘YSL.’”

    1. Yayo a fool for this one. Biggie is a legend no doubt, but his time was cut short, discography is thin and doesn’t compare favorably to Ice Cube output.

    2. One helped pave the way for the other. Ice Cube was dynamic, touched on social/political issues of the time and did it with great lyricism and style. Biggie did the same but it’s like sayin that the fifth step up was better than the first few it took to even get there. Time to stop comparing and just appreciate greatness when it surfaces.

      1. Yes yes my friend I agree wit you.these guys need to stop comparing these legendary rappers. BIG and cube are both great black men.if Big was still here who is to say

    3. Yayo: Who’s YOUR favourite rapper of all time?
      EFN: Ice Cube.
      Yayo: WRONG!!!!

    4. Biggie is easily one of my favorites but Cube probably has more storyteller songs than Biggie has total songs.

    5. Biggie remains the illest. Dude was so dope with just two albums he even triumphed over future rappers. Biggie over everyone in the rap game, and that’s just my personal opinion. Go study Biggie! He’s still sicker than your average! (The dopest lyricist ever!)

    6. Ice cube was the main rapper on the scene from the time NWA album dropped in 1988 to his solo album 89/90 and then his follow up albums death certificate, lethal injection and predator all dropped before 1993. Also during this time he dropped kill at will EP and starred in Boyz n the Hood.

From say 89/90 to 92/93 Ice Cube was the man – probably some point during that period he would have been considered the best rapper on many publications. And he dropped one of best Diss tracks (no vaseline) of all time during that period, the track literally ended NWA as a group forever.

Even Tim Dog refused to Diss Ice Cube (and Ice T) on F#£k Compton, he went after the rest of NWA and crew.

I don’t think Cube gets the respect he deserves, he might be something else now but during that 89-92 period he was that guy. It was only with the emergence of snoop and pac one the west coast and nas, wu, biggie on the east coast around the 93 to 96 era that cube dipped a little.

    8. I respect Big work for the short time he was around, but Cube stuff in it’s totality is superior and it’s not even close. I get the support Biggie receives from NY though. Both of them are among the greats.

    9. Y’all forget biggie wrote most of Lil Kim n Junior Mafia album. Now as far as who’s the greatest hip hop story teller? We all know that’s Nas. The only rapper I heard who told a story backwards in a song

    10. people try and say anything for views. We all like Cube, but we know there’s another tier. Artists who changed the game, and who’s entire style ( and lyrics) have been copied for over 20 years! That’s Biggie. Frequently compared to Pac, Nas, Jay, Em, etc

    11. Everybody on this comment board just listen to the ice cube sing “THE NI@@A YOU LOVE TO HATE” end of story!

    12. Huge fan of both Cube and Biggie. Go listen to “The Product” and “A Bird in the Hand” to hear the plight of the black man in the US succinctly and accurately depicted . Cube and Biggie were both great storytellers who with an economy of words created visuals like movies.

I can’t say which is better and I certainly wouldn’t get in a heated debate between 2 GOATS. Oh and then go listen to “We Had to Tear…” to here the perfect description of the LA Riots in 5 minutes.
