Man Shot At TIP’s Scales 925 Restaurant Identified As Ex-NBA Player Glen Rice Jr.

    The man who was shot outside Scales 925 has been identified as Glen Rice Jr., according to TMZ.

    The website says that he left a gun in a stairwell before fleeing the scene in his friend’s Porsche. The car was pulled over by police and Rice was arrested for reckless conduct and possession of marijuana.

    Scales 925 released a statement about the shooting, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

    “The events that happened near Scales 925 is severely disconcerting,” the statement says. “Our staff noticed a heightened exchange between patrons and they were asked to leave. An altercation between the individuals of no affiliation with Scales 925 seemed to have led to an unfortunate escalation in a public area near our restaurant. We commend our team on the swift and professional handling of the incident and on ensuring that the safety and well being of our patrons and staff remain a priority. We were saddened to learn about Mr. Rice’s injury and wish him the absolute best with his personal injury and situation. The Scales 925 family condemns any act of violence and will always adhere to best practices to safeguard our patrons and staff. We encourage the public and media to continue to responsibly get any additional facts on this unfortunate incident from the authorities, as we plan to do the same.”

    TIP, who owns the restaurant, is not named in the police report.

    In 2013, Rice was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers and traded to the Washington Wizards where he played in 16 games over the span of two seasons. He was waived by the team in January.

    He was dismissed by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball team in 2012 for his involvement in a shooting outside an Atlanta nightclub.

    Rice is the son of Glen Rice, who spent 15 seasons in the NBA.

    There was a shooting in the parking lot of TIP’s Scales 925 restaurant in Atlanta yesterday (October 25), TMZ reports.

    Law enforcement says that five or six men were kicked out of the soul food restaurant after they started arguing on the upper deck patio. The group continued the scuffle outside and one man was shot in the leg.

    The victim left the scene in a friend’s Porsche. Police responding to a 911 call pulled over the car and found the man bleeding. They also found 240 grams of marijuana and $6,000 in cash. The man was arrested and booked for reckless conduct and possession of marijuana. He says he did not know the person who shot him.

    The website says the restaurant’s surveillance cameras recorded the shooting.
