Changing his name from T.I. to TIP is not the only transition the Atlanta rapper is undergoing in his music career. He has announced that he left Columbia Records.
TIP independently released Da’ Nic EP September 11 through his Grand Hustle label and is preparing an album entitled The Dime Trap.
“Having just exited my deal at Columbia, I was a rogue artist, busting creativity, just waiting to put music in the marketplace,” the Atlanta rapper says to HITS Daily Double, “so while I’m sorting out my next situation, I’m blessed enough to be able to control my destiny and put music out as quickly as I want to, and was able to release a TIP album, which I had wanted to do for a long time.”
The rapper formerly known as T.I. released Paperwork last year with Columbia Records. His previous seven albums, including King, Paper Trail and No Mercy, were released through Atlantic Records.

It’s crazy not so long ago T.I was considered one of the hottest rapper’s around a worthy successor to JAY-Z, King of the south. Now when people mention the greats of the past ten years names like Lil Wayne, Kanye, Drake, 50 come up, Tip is not even considered at all,truly fell off.
I disagree….. And for hip hop fans falling is off is the best thing to do. Get in music get out & transition to something different. Hip Hop itself fell off starting with the hip hop fan himself. Too fickle, too much what have you done for me lately fans. For all you rappers, create a few hit singles then get out of Hip Hop while you can. The goal is to fall off because the fan will turn against you. The stuff they type they won’t say to your face. So no need to create a career in Hip Hop. It’s over
Why have people become so pessimistic about hip-hop nowadays? It is just fucking crazy!! I run into people who just seem to paint current state of hip-hop with just one broad brush stroke. Why are other genres striving longer than this one?
