Beyoncé‘s mother, Tina Knowles, has filed for divorce from actor Richard Lawson — her second husband — after eight years of marriage.
TMZ broke the story on Wednesday (July 26) and noted that the woman affectionately known as “Ms. Tina” cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her divorce filing. The couple share no children together.
What’s more, “Ms. Tina” also petitioned the court to terminate Richard’s ability to ask for spousal support, so he doesn’t ask her for money after the split.
Finally, Beyoncé’s mother requested that the court restore her legal name to Celestine Knowles, as she’d changed it to Celestine Lawson when she first got married.
While Tina Knowles often makes headlines for her relationship woes — such as when she and Mathew Knowles got a divorce — she also makes headlines for being a supportive mother and mother-in-law.
Back in 2018, when JAY-Z rang in the final year of his 40s in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he headlined the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert, Ms. Tina was front and center showing love in person and online.
The proud parent, who joined the couple on the trip, posted a heartfelt message to her son-in-law on his official birthday.
“A very Happy Birthday to my amazingly talented, super smart, gracious, classy, filled with swag son in law,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I could not be more happy to have you in my family and could not be more happy to be in yours,” she continued, adding that his mother and grandmother “did great.”
Tina has long been publicly supportive of Jay, from making statements to the press to shut down the rumor of relationship problems with Bey or sounding off on the Grammys after Jigga walked away empty-handed in 2017.
“You have done so much for our Culture, Thank you for that,” she said, ending her message by adding “I have watched you grow personally in leaps and bounds … you are an incredible husband and the best Father!”
She even defended Hov when he came under fire for touching Beyoncé’s leg so much — while also pointing out that she and her soon-to-be ex-husband also do the same.
“When you love someone and like them you just want to touch them,” Knowles wrote on Instagram back in 2021. “Me and Richard are always touching even if it’s just our feet! Yeah!! That’s what you do! For those of you who don’t understand, Try it sometimes it works!! Human Touch is how you stay connected!!”
Nah, da court best give Richard spousal support, child support even if they don’t got no kids and alimony jus lyk dey wud if Tina filed for divorce. Dats real justice.
This is and adult and he should take what he came into the union.
No support of no kind. Those rich folks are sicking want what they did not work for.
Shameful behavior.
These rich folks should have a prenup stating what they getting and that’s that.
I hope he gets every dollar that’s coming to him.
Amen

Kevin Samuels is missed.
I knew it was just a matter of time. That wasn’t a good match from the start. I think he was in it because of the clout JayZ and Beyonce added to the equation. That’s all and now he thinks he deserves spousal support? Boy bye!’

They were married for eight years. That’s a long time for a grifter to stay committed. Maybe it was what you wrote and love.
If Tina main source the union financially then he should get spousal support for a fixed period of five years to give him time to get on his feet.
