Timbaland Denies Accusations He Refused To Perform At Flint, Michigan Benefit Concert

After reports circulating that Timbaland refused to perform at a benefit concert for Flint, Michigan, a representative issued a statement to Billboard to explain Timbaland’s situation.

“Unfortunately, the statement made by the promoter in Detroit is simply not true,” the source says on behalf of the producer, saying Timbaland is an “extremely generous person who agreed to a much lower fee for this event to raise money for the Flint, Michigan’s water crisis… The promoter was fully aware that this was not a full band performance on stage, yet still promoted it as such. The club was still able to raise money for charity, which was our goal in doing this event all along.”

The event brought in $3,000 for water bottles and filters for Flint, Michigan.

Timbaland also responded to a fan on Instagram who asked people to consider both sides of the story. The co-owner of Bleu nightclub said the producer refused to perform because the club did not serve Jay Z’s “Ace of Spades” champagne.

“I want everybody to think I wasn’t suppose to perform think about it why would I do that,” Timbaland writes in a comment captured by The Shade Room, “see what I need to do for now on call these promoter out that not rite for the fans and me now I’ve gave money and came and they ask me at last min sorry to the people who lied to y’all but what kills me is that y’all believe anything these days u believe other and not the source u believe a text and y’all are debating over black and white letters.”

Timbaland refused to perform at a benefit concert for Flint, Michigan Thursday (January 28), the New York Daily News reports.

The site says that Timbaland refused to perform after Bleu nightclub in Detroit replaced his request for two bottles of Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” champagne with Dom Perignon. The venue does not serve the brand, which is owned by Jay Z and costs more than $300 per bottle.

Club co-owner Mitchell Jaworski says that the mishap did not stop the producer and his team from ordering more drinks.

“They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event,” Jaworski says. “They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor.”

Timbaland finally appeared on stage after 1 a.m. and nodded his head as another deejay performed.

Timbaland was contracted to deejay a 30-minute set and perform five to eight songs as part of his “King Stays King” tour.

The night brought in about $3,000 for bottles of water and filters for Flint, Michigan. The city’s water is poisoned with lead.

(This article was first published on January 29, 2016 and is as follows.)

Timbaland stopped in Detroit yesterday (January 28) for his “King Stays King” tour and donated the proceeds from the concert to Flint, Michigan.

The producer shared the news on Twitter with a flier for the concert.

“Detroit come out tonight and help me support the#FlintWaterCrisis #givingback #KingStaysKing #TextbookTimbo,” Timbaland writes.

“Proceeds from this event will go to purchasing more supplies for the Flint water crisis,” the event’s flier says.

The city of Flint’s water is contaminated with lead after the water supply was switched from Detroit’s water system to the Flint River in April 2014. President Barack Obama declared a national emergency earlier this month.

Other rappers who have donated to help Flint include The Game, Meek Mill and Big Sean. Flint native Jon Connor released the “Fresh Water For Flint” single yesterday (January 28) to raise awareness for the crisis.

    1. Shout out to Timbaland! btw I hope Gov Snyder and Darnell Earley are held accountable for the mass genocide that their administration did to the citizens of Flint

    2. I really don’t understand this country anymore. For the past few years, Flint was in the top 3 (was number 1 for a while) most dangerous US cities to live in, and it wasn’t because of the water. Most folks from Michigan were like “yo, be careful when you go to Flint…that place is dangerous and you can get stabbed real quick.” But as soon as people outside of Michigan found out about the bad water ordeal, they act like Flint was once a beautiful place that the government took over to kill the black.

      1. Flint born and raised. I have never been stabbed or shot. The majority of crimes occured during other crimes. We’re no differernt than other cities. There are so many positive things that inside the city and immediate suburbs.

Where’s our televised benefit? Where’s Kanye saying Obama hates black people? He’s to busy worrying about how many fans think he likes his a**hole played with.

    3. He got to drunk and couldnt even perform at his fundraiser. Blamed the staff for not have Jays champagne, he a meek.

    4. Game donates $500k out of his own pocket while he’s out of the country…meanwhile Timbaland acts like a spoiled entitled bitch over fucking premium brand champagne he doesn’t even pay for and the fans that came to see him “perform” raised a grand total of $3k…well done Tim you fat fucking clown

      1. They don’t care man. Most of these guys are in it for publicity. Obviously timbaland didn’t really give a shit either

      2. Get out of here with all that nonsense. The president just gave flint 80 million and this is a government problem period. Why didn’t you ask where is Bon Jovi? What about Drake who hasn’t spoke up on one social issue? Stop D riding Jay and make sure the elected officials get it done.

      3. Its THEIR money they’re not obligated to do anything it would be nice but they don’t have to donate. But just because people don’t publicize their donation doesn’t mean they didn’t donate

      4. Because Bon Jovi and Drake don’t come do a concert in Michigan and charge 150.00 for tickets and sell the venue out, that’s why, Jay and Beyonce could show some compassion and donate being they come thru this joint and collect big checks when they do shows here you sucker

      5. So Drake doesn’t do shows in the D?? Rock artist don’t do shows inn the D?? Shut up, you are just going after artist you hate the most as if people gave them money for nothing in exchange. Going to a concert is not support, it paying to be entertained fool. I believe in giving but the way you are targeting two people who had nothing to do with it and not the elected officials who did is flat out corny.

    5. Fuck timbaland, We got A Major crisis in out hands and this dude refused to perform for the residents of flight over a bottle of champagne? Fuck these egotistical niggas

      1. The President just allocated 80 million to Flint so kill all of that. You folks want the governor to go to prison but want the celebs to pay the tab? Yeah that makes sense

    6. maybe finally you Naysayers will get the fucking point*….I seen one comment*where’s jay & beyonce*look here folks*stop overlooking the obvious evidence staring u in the face*they’re soulless individuals*you really think it’s a metaphor just for selling out*Wrong*can’t call me a conspiracy nut when I can point to the evidence coming out of their mouth in interviews or what not*Michael Jackson made a song back in 94/95…..They don’t really care about us*….Who is They*…..the elite/cabal /bilderburgs/ect*….whatever u want to call the demonic faction pushing the nwo*it’s just the start people*If your alarmed by the mayor/US government/timberland/Jay z/lmao lack of help don’t be*all the lies we’ve been told are about to collide with the truth*then the finger pointers & Naysayer scoffers will see for themselves*face it folks we are in the nwo & all we can do now is get the word around & prepare*……past the point of no return*we rested on our laurels as a nation while They stripped our rights away*Facts not opinions*God have mercy*

      1. Just because its nit publicized doesn’t mean they haven’t donated. Many people choose to donate anonymously

    7. Refused to perform because Ace of Spades wasn’t there? Maybe when you are going to perform try doing it sober it’s a charity event!

    8. Sad … If didn’t want to help the children of Flint , why show up ? It’s more important to get the free drinks . Your Mother GOT TO BE SO PROUD !!!!!!!

    9. you both can suck the biggest d*ck in the world and swallow tons of c*m, this is wessyde muthaf*ckas betta recognise
