Tim Westwood is facing the prospect of criminal charges following multiple allegations of sexual assault.
The pioneering British radio DJ was accused by several women of unwanted sexual behavior between 1992 and 2017, with it being alleged he abused his status in the UK music industry.
Now, investigating police officers have submitted the case to the Crown Prosecution Service who will decide whether there are grounds to file criminal charges against Westwood.
Lead investigator Det. Supt. Andy Furphy said in a statement: “A file of evidence has now been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and our team continues to make enquiries, with support from prosecutors. We will thoroughly and properly investigate sexual offences as part of our commitment to making London safer for women and girls.”
The Metropolitan Police added: “A man in his 60’s has been interviewed under caution on four separate occasions. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in London between 1982 and 2016”.
Westwood denied the accusations when they were first made: “I can confirm that such allegations are false and without any foundation.”
A day later he stepped down from his role on Capital Radio, and has been off air ever since.
Three of the women accused Westwood of “predatory sexual behavior” during what they believed were meetings about opportunities in the music industry.
A further four women also claim he groped them while they were having a picture taken with him after nightclub performances.
All the alleged victims are Black and were in their late teens or early 20s when the alleged incidents happened.
One victim, an aspiring singer/songwriter who was 19 at the time, claims a 53-year-old Westwood undid his trousers and exposed himself while sat next to her in a car in 2010. After they entered his flat, he allegedly got fully naked, put a condom on and initiated sex with her, during which she was “frozen.”
None of the victims know each other and their experiences had not been reported to the police or Westwood’s longtime employer, the BBC, who have since launched an investigation into the DJ’s conduct while working at their radio stations.
