The Lab Premiers On MTVU; Hosted By Pete Rock

Veteran super-producer Pete Rock is partying like it’s 1992. After renewing success with productions for Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah and Jim Jones, the Mount Vernon, New York-based producer will release NY’s Finest today on Nature Sounds Records.

With upcoming work for LL Cool J, Styles P and G-Unit, Pete Rock is also set to get his own television show on MTVU, the network’s college, closed-circuit affiliate.

The Lab premiers this month (dates to be announced), and begins with an episode hosted by Pete Rock in New York’s Fat Beats Records. Every episode will feature at least two videos, with contributions from artists such as Consequence, Madlib and Big Noyd.

Of the show, a publicist wrote, “They scream Hip Hop dead, it’s alive and kicking on mtvU!
And After all your help I need a lil bit more to keep this show alive. Hit up
all your peoples, blast the word out everywhere, and tell them to check out the
show online! not only that, they can pull any of the videos from the site and
post them on their Facebook, Myspace, blogs, etc. They’re embeddable ala Youtube now. We’ll be able to track these pulls, and thus determine the amount
of traction the show is getting. The same goes for the downloads as well. We
need to show the suits that people are checking for this, that although the
mainstream is cool, there is a huge untapped resource of quality
undergroud/Indie Hip Hop music out there being done by artists making their own
videos, running their own labels, grinding it out day to day.
