The Hip Hop Week In Review: 11/20/2011 – 11/26/2011

    This week, Drake ended up bowing at the top of the charts with Take Care, also dishing out a few words to Ludacris. T.I. announced the title of his upcoming album Trouble Man, also responding to 50 Cent, who had made comments last year about how his wife should have taken the fall for his drug arrest. Nicki Minaj announced the title and release date for her upcoming sophomore album, while her Young Money boss Lil Wayne added another member to the squad.

    Drake Debuts At Number One With “Take Care”

    This week, Drake managed to score one of the highest first-week sales of the year with his sophomore set Take Care. Bowing at the top of the charts, the moody album sold 631,000 copies in its first seven days, putting it behind Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV for stacking the biggest numbers of the year. Additionally, HipHopDX weighed in on the album and his career with our roundtable, while Juvenile revealed that Drizzy dropped off a verse for his upcoming album Rejuvenation. The Young Money rapper also responded to Ludacris’ diss on “Badaboom” and wants to strike while the iron’s hot, revealing that he’s begun work on his third album.

    T.I. Trades Words With 50 Cent, Enlists Pimp C For “Trouble Man”

    T.I. is hard at work on his upcoming album Trouble Man, which is gearing up to be a feature-packed affair. Producer Caviar revealed earlier this week that Tip plans to include an unreleased Pimp C verse on the LP, while the King of the South said that he’s currently in talks with Usher to figure out the right track to record for the album. Outside of his album, Tip had some choice words to throw at 50 Cent, who said that he should have let his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle take the blame for his 2010 drug arrest. Tip said that he wouldn’t allow the mother of his children to head to prison – which prompted Fif to echo his earlier statements.

    Nicki Minaj Preps Sophomore Album, Lil Wayne Adds New Member To Young Money

    Young Money had a strong week. In addition to Drake scoring the third-highest first-week sales with Take Care, Nicki Minaj announced her upcoming sophomore album, the follow-up to last year’s Pink Friday. Birdman first broke the news that the LP would arrive in early 2012, while the Harajuku Barbie later revealed that the album will be titled Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and will release on February 14, 2012. Meanwhile, Lil Wayne, who passed out turkeys in New Orleans, Louisiana earlier this week, added another member to the Young Money family, announcing that Torion Sellers is the latest to join the squad.
