Seven weeks deep, HipHopDX is giving you you the 10 most popular singles on the site from the past week. After every week our staff will give you the ranked list since the past Monday, based on visits. These numbers are reflective from the time of posting.
Common’s Resurrection
Since 2005’s Be, Common has been hard to gauge. The emcee-turned-actor made Finding Forever, an album that felt largely catered to couples than traditional Rap fans. Following, Universal Mind Control attempted to bridge contemporary Hip Hop with its beginnings, but soured many critics and fans. Now a Warner Brothers artist – Common’s first new label in nine years, things are cooking up. The Chicago, Illinois veteran is working on a full album with No I.D. – who worked with the emcee on two classic albums (Resurrection and One Day It’ll All Make Sense). After No made hits with Jay-Z and Kanye West, he’s back with his longest-running collaborator, and if “Ghetto Dreams” with Nas is any indication of the sound, brace yourself for the great take-back.
Game’s R.E.D. Dawn
Things are also heating up for Compton’s Game. With R.E.D. planned for August, Game had two singles appear in the Top 10 this week. The solo cut “New Jack City,” and the Def Jam-heavy “Bottles & Rockin’ J’s” from late last month. With plenty more surprises expected for Game’s Aftermath reunion record, it’s only just begun.

road to glory already was number one, catch up nigga its a new week
new week? road to glory was released on the same day as “ghetto dreams”
are we not counting dead rappers? pac should be #2. not that it even matters but a bit of consistency is appreciated even with pointless lists.

Oh, now everyone wants to bump Nas?? lol…i guess it’s all good people are finally starting to appreciate Gods Son.
yea people are liked the nas song so what? that makes them hypocrites how exactly? he released a song they like… so they listened.. how the fuck does that make them hypocrites? just because they dont bump “get down” and “drunk by myself” every damn day they dont have a right to like his new song? why are hip hop fans always trying to claim artists? nobody cares that you bump nas every day and he happens to be popular now… he’s not your fucking artist. get the fuck over it. if he makes a dope song people will listen. just becasue we’re not on his dick 365 that dont make us hypocrites.
Who said they’re hypocrites??? You the first person to use that word on this page dickhead, if you read my post, I said it’s all good. So move on loser!
why do hip hop fans always have this “i told you so” attitude like they always new dude was gonna make a song that everybody likes? let people enjoy a song without calling them hypocrites.
The Game? I thought he was a wrastler
Nasty-ass slobbering cockslob
These are the top singles? If these singles are any indication of the current state of hip hop, then hip hop is in a terrible state, and has gone soft as hell. Ghetto Dreams and Nasty are the only dope tracks. New Jack City and Bottles & Rockin’ J’s is some of the corniest shit I’ve ever heard. (The Busta verse was nice though.) And when the hell is Game going to do a song in which he DOESN’T have to drop 50 fucking names. smh. Future (more like history)/Drake – It’s 2011 and we’re still using Tony Montana references? How fucking original. Future’s raps sound like a drunk Handiman (Damon Waynes from In Living Color. I guess thats enough hate for one comment. Off the soapbox.

This is the top songs omg lol f**king smily face
Said it before and will say it again, you young cats(22 and under), that claim to be hip hop fans are the reason hip hop is dead and artist have these PATHETIC ASS NUMBERS!
Back in the 80’s we supported artist like Run DMC, LL Cool J, KRS ONE when they did stuff outside of their original style! But today, all you so called hip hop fans are concerned about is image, fuck skill and creativity, you want image and marketing. Run DMC made a song with Areosmith, but that album was still a classic. LL Cool J made a love song I Need Love, but at that time was still considered the best rapper. KRS ONE made reggae hip hop, something never heard before. But you cats today, dis Jay Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne Em…if they change their style up.
Let’s say Nas made the best 15 songs of his career and on the last track he made a song with Katy Perry that went #1 on the pop charts, the album sold 7 mil copies. Even though the 15 songs were tight, all you cats would do would be talking about how Nas sold out and went pop! Not talk about the 15 best tracks of his career! Why because you new cats aren’t true hip hop fans. You want your rappers to fit into a tiny box, you want your rappers image to never change, stay the same way forever, never grow! Wu Tang has been doing the same shit for 15 years, they can’t sell shit. Yes all you young cats think it’s great for they never changed their style, tried something new, but I see you cats don’t support the new shit when it comes out!
When did hip hop become all about image and forgot about creativity, new styles, new shit? Em or Jay makes a song with a hot rapper or pop star – he’s a sellout, funny but back in the days when Rakim made a pop song with Jody Watley “What About Your Friends”, none of us called him a sellout! I guess we weren’t so fixated with image and were more about skill, and everyone knows Rakim had them.
You young cats and your image of what hip hop has to be, some cat that can’t sell records, has to be a street nigga, not any race but black, can’t make a song with anyone artist that hasn’t been to jail…are the ones that killed hip hop! It’s a damn shame!
