TakeOff and Young Dolph‘s untimely murders have inspired Gucci Mane to take a different approach toward the current music he’s creating.

Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily, the Atlanta rap legend gave his perspective on how the aforementioned deaths, along with the passing of his artist Big Scarr in 2022, had a profound impact on him as a person and seasoned artist. He also spoke about the new album he’s currently working on.

“Ever since, I guess November of when Dolph passed away and my artist Scarr passing away and TakeOff passing away and Pooh locked up and Foo locked up, that’s why I kind of named my album A Breath of Fresh Air,” Gucci Mane said.

“I just, like I said, let me just try to be the person … I’m just not in the mood to hear a whole bunch of drilling and killing and this and that and not saying that I haven’t did that before, but just right now, just let me just kind of lead by example and show people that it is more to rap about than my opps and all that.”

The “Lemonade” rapper went on: “You can rap about going out to eat with your girl or your wife. And that’s what all the songs are about. I’m not saying all about the same thing, but that’s what I’m kind of trying to get off. And a lot of artists I see rap about the pain in they life, but me through my career a lot of times I do a lot of rapping about cars and jewelry and just extravagance.

“So I kind of wanted to let people know that I go through pain. Like I said, I didn’t want to have a such so much just superficial topics. I hit people and let them know, ‘Hey, this was going on,’ but it ain’t a bad thing. It’s okay to be happy. You know what I’m saying?”

Throughout the interview, Guwop also spoke about his admiration for fellow rap superstar and Atlanta native Lil Baby. Both artists recently collaborated on their new single, “Bluffin.”

“Man, I love the artist he is and I love the person that he is,” Gucci Mane said. “He’s a real good person. He’s very genuine and real and caring, and he goes out his way for his friends and just the young artist. He’s always trying to help people. He reminds me a lot of myself in that respect that he always reach out to the young artists and try to keep them around him to see this is how you do things. And I also respect the fact that he takes his career seriously.”

He added: “He don’t play. He a professional. Honestly, with Baby, he a good person and you how they say good people get rewarded for all the stuff they doing? Because that’s genuinely just who he is, even if he wasn’t rapping. So that’s why I said sometimes it’s always good to see the good guys win. And I like that about that, that hey, he always look out for people and it comes back towards him. ”

Gucci Mane has been really busy as of late. Earlier this month, he joined Meek Mill to perform at Rick Ross’ car show held at the MMG mogul’s sprawling Promise Land estate in Georgia.

According to Fox 5, Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb gave kudos to Rick Ross and his team for running a flawless event.

“He hired a really good team that put together a lot of good work for us,” Babb told the outlet. “We’ve been able to work with multiple agencies, really the only thing with some minor inconveniences with traffic. It’s been really good for the community as far as law enforcement because we’re able to get to work together in a way we’ve never worked before.”
