T.I. tried his hand at stand-up comedy earlier this month when performing a set at West Hollywood’s The Laugh Factory. Clips show the ATL trap pioneer touching on topics such as women getting surgery on their bodies, rules of a good marriage and more, which looked to impress the audience on hand.
One person who didn’t seem too fond of Tip’s jokes was the billed headliner for the night, Godfrey. The full-time comic recently spoke on a podcast about how he didn’t see T.I. as a comedian because he doesn’t know how long he’s even going to take the craft seriously and didn’t even watch his set.
T.I. got wind of Godfrey’s comments and decided to fire back during an Instagram Live while walking the streets on Monday (February 22).
“What you are failing to do is failing to recognize someone who could be an ally, someone who could be an asset, someone who could add value and you misrepresenting that as opposition,” he said. “Bro, I’m not your opponent. You been talking about how long you been doing this and for somebody to come on after you headlining.
“You know how many of these comedians there is out there rapping right now? You know how many comedians there is doing rap? I’ve been rapping since I was eight years old bruh. It took me probably 20 years to God damn get where I wanted to be.”
Tip continued to explain he doesn’t even look at himself as a comedian but rather a “superstar” entertainer.
“You said in your little interview is you said that he’s not a comedian and had you taken the time to come to the stage what you said that you would not do and you should not do, but I disagree, you would have heard in my set I said, ‘I am not a comedian, I’m a superstar,'” he continued. “There’s a difference.”
The 41-year-old Grand hustle CEO has dabbled in various different lanes of entertainment including trying his hand in Hollywood as an actor on the silver screen. Tip continued his comedy journey on February 10 as part of Shaquille O’Neal’s Annual All-Star Comedy Jam in Los Angeles.
Godfrey must be on hard times for this thing to be an issue. Seriously? Lol. Support your brother.
Tip is right. When Lil Duval made Smile the rap community supported him. Katt Williams released several songs and rappers supported him. Lots of comedians survived on touring with rappers. Godfrey is tripping.
I think Tip misunderstood what Godfrey’s stance actually was. Nobody likes a line skipper and whether Tip likes it or not many tried and true standups are gonna feel like that.
t.i. the television chef. get on one of those lifestyle shows. seriously i ain’t fucking with you.
Basically TI hasn’t paid his dues in comedy which is a reasonable criticism, for the same reasons that legit rappers get mad when pop stars try to put out hip hop albums to make a quick buck from the genre.
I dont see what Godfrey said that was disrespectful. Tip not a comedian but a superstar by his own admission so whats the issue!? Tip aint watching the before and after acts at his shows so dont get why TI felt slighted. Godfrey was a little shady but TI do it all the time to others
