Hit producer Swizz Beatz has caused quite a stir in Camden, NJ, as the police have threatened to pull their support for a Peace on the Streets rally, which is slated to take place today.
Camden Police issued a statement on Tuesday July 24th, calling out Swizz for the use of the phrase, “it’s me, snitches.” The police requested for Swizz to renounce what they viewed as “anti-snitching” sentiments.
In response, Swizz explained that the word “snitch” was simply used for the radio edit in place of a curse word. “The use of the word ‘snitches’ in the song was just an edit for
radio,” said Swizz via statement. “If I supported violence or
the ‘Stop Snitching’ campaign, I wouldn’t have agreed to be a part of
the event.”
The rally is sponsored by both the local government and school board, in response to the crime and violence that has ravaged Camden – one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.
The rally will distribute over $4,000 to local children for the school year, and is promoted by radio station Power 99FM, located in Philadelphia.
