In March 2005, Suge Knight was ordered to pay $130 million to singer Lydia Harris, who claimed to have helped Suge start Death Row Records, but was not compensated.
The suit claimed that Harris and her husband were the founders of the label, and her career was forced aside by Knight while he slandered her in the media.
Now, Knight’s attorneys have filed a motion that contends Harris’ action
constitute fraud. Attorney Dermot Givens asked the $130 million ruling to be reviewed in light of new evidence.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Knight’s lawyers claim to have discovered a 1998 bankruptcy filing by Harris in which she did not list Death Row Records as an asset – nor did she notify anyone that she had a lawsuit filed against Knight, claiming ownership of Death Row Records.
The motion was expected to be the focus of a court
hearing yesterday (Jan. 2) in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
