Spotify Hires Troy Carter As Counter To Jay Z’s Tidal & Apple Music

Spotify’s ubiquity in the streaming marketplace has unfortunately been dwarfed by their lack of public mascot such as Jay Z (and nearly every other high-profile artist) on TIDAL and Apple Music’s infinite reach for musicians who also double as celebrities.

That changed yesterday, June 6, when the news leaked that music manager tour de force Troy Carter was brought on to serve as the “global head of creator services.” According to Recode, he will directly report to Spotify chief content and strategy officer, Stefan Blom.

As a hungry music industry maven, Carter, 43, used his Philly roots and savvy to help jumpstart the careers of future platinum plaque earners, Eve, Floetry and Nelly. His big break — and claim to fame — arrived when he began to manage the career of a then unknown Lady Gaga and 10 million copies later (on the single “Just Dance” alone), he immediately became a name to know for every record label.

Carter confidently embraced his new position (after he told Recode the leak was “premature”), writing on Facebook “I’m a firm believer that Spotify is the future for music. In my new role as Global Head of Creator Services, my job is just a natural continuation of what I’ve always done — protect the voice of artists. Always have and always will.”

He continued, “Through Atom Factory, my team will stay in place to run our tech, culture and hustle outlet SMASHD.co as well as launch a brand innovation agency. And through Smashd Labs and Cross Culture VC, I’ll still continue investing in great founders that have the ability to deliver next wave disruption to culture.”

Carter has worked with the likes of John Legend, Priyanka Chopra, Meghan Trainor and even guest starred as a Shark on Shark Tank last year.

He previously worked as a Spotify proxy and his new role will be to primary handle artist/company relationships.

    3. Fuck Tidal. Yeah, it gives you new music and music videos before everyone else, but a few days later they appear on YouTube. For free!

    4. Divide and Conquer. You see what the Devil does, bring one black man in to help destroy another brother.

      1. Ummm since when have you seen some white dude in a black cloak giving orders to bloods crips and other gangs to kill eachother? There killing eachother over territory profit merchandise or a hoe or cause there OG says to its that fucking simple and your telling me whiteys running the sinaloa cartel? No your a fucking ignorant dipshit whos to blind to look to solve your own fucking problems and just want a finger to point and someone to blame your fucking pathetic the white man doesnt need to run gangs we already run wall street and many many other things worth TRILLIONS why would the white man go fucking around with people killing eachother? The only time the white man usualy does some crooked shit its for profit kinda like the war in the middle east for instance? But then again thats a combinatiom between the white and the brown man… so trust me the only one running the gangs are blacks mexicans and there are a few gangs that are run by whites but other than the arien brotherhood the others ate almost non existent so be sure to think a little before you talk next time and try pointing a finger….

      2. ^ No but years of social engineering has seen to it that those in a position of power have positioned certain segments of the community into environments where life chances are more limited than those born with a silver spoon in their mouths . And for the record that goes for poor whites as well as poor blacks and browns …. Anyway I’m wasting my time with you ….Have a great day

      3. @ Joe I really hope you are a typical HHDX poster i.e pretending to be “black” as that it is a really retarded comment . It’s business and just in case your’e not aware Troy Carter is very successful in his own right . If they had chosen a white male for that role we wouldn’t have heard a squeak from you . Racism and discrimination is real pick the real fight not the imaginary one in your head !

      4. Its not just white people….. its black lives matter and alot of other similar foundations throwing fuel on the fire as well they have even openly admitted to how they can effect the voting outcome in america and they hold the power and pretty much whoever wooos them the most is the one the head of those orginizations turn all there followers support towards and in the process selling out all of his or her brothers and sisters lives to the government people just need to learn to get along and its not just the whites its on both sides of the fence we all got changes we can make in this world to make it a better place for everyone shouod shoot people who try and rile up race issues to make a profitt *cough cough” beyonce and jay z

      5. As long as race is as trending as it is right now in the media and such a hot switch for the media to turn on and off as it likes to boost ratings you will only see more and more of this type of shit mainstream medias the devil

    5. I can’t rock with Jay no more after he took Reasonable Doubt and all The Blueprints off of Spotify. Fuck that nigga!

      1. I agree, fuck that nigga! If it’s not on Spotify, I’m not listening to it. He think people are gonna sign up and stay with Tidal for him and Kanye? Nah!

    6. Big up to S. Carter for bringing us the best music over the years and I support Tidal 100% and soon enough apple and Spotify will disappear.
