Since being shot on Monday, rapper Spice 1 is reportedly recovering in an East Bay hospital outside of his home in San Francisco. According to Hayward Police Lt. Reid Lindblom, the rapper was shot in the chest while in his car in Hayward on Monday.
According to what Spice had told police, he was sleeping in his car, parked in the rapper’s parents’ driveway for approximately 30 minutes. When he awoke, there was a man, described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’7″, standing outside of the vehicle. A subsequent shot was fired, and an injured Spice was able to get into his parents’ house where a 911 call was made, bringing ambulances.
Hayward City Councilwoman Doris Rodriguez lived less than a block away from the shooting, though denied she knew Spice 1. “It’s pretty close to home. It’s
always been a fairly quiet neighborhood, but periodically things have
happened,” Rodriguez told Bay news station KTVU.
Spice 1‘s manager Six also told local media that the bullet was within inches of the rapper’s heart, and asked to please keep praying for Spice, who has been releasing albums since 1991. Spice, who was signed to Jive Records throughout the 1990s, was shot a day before the death of former collaborator and label-mate Pimp C.
