Soulja Boy, inspired by J. Cole’s recent recollections of initially being a “hater” of the “Crank That” rapper, has been in a reflective mood lately. Recently he recalled another artist who was skeptical at first: Snoop Dogg.

Over the weekend, SB took to social media to share how devastated he was that the Doggfather wasn’t feeling him at first.

“When I first came out, [Snoop] was like, ‘”Crank That”? What is this [bullshit]?’

“It hurt my soul,” Soulja continued. “I wanted to cry. I was 17 at the time. This is my idol telling me telling me that I suck! I’m like, what the [fuck]?”

But the story had a happy ending.

“And then I met Snoop Dogg in person, and he was like, ‘Man, my bad. … I didn’t understand the song when it first came out. Now I jam to that shit.'”

“I always just had a soft spot in my heart for the [people] that hated,” Soulja concluded. “Because I’ve always been hated on.”

You can see the whole monologue below.

Soulja’s trip down memory lane was sparked by Cole’s comments on a recent episode of Lil Yachty’s A Safe Space podcast.

Around the time Soulja Boy came out, I don’t know how this happened but, I had a realization within myself ’cause I’m hearing that shit and I’m like ‘Man this shit, Soulja Boy tell em”, ” the “She Knows” rapper revealed.

“Sounds crazy to say now ’cause it’s such a classic to me. But at that time I had resistance. Similar to when you came out and your class came out, I had resistance. ‘Nah that’s not the thing that I love. Like what? Y’all fucking with this?’ I was one of them. But there was a part of me that had a realization. I was proud of myself for this realization. So I was like ‘Bruh, you a hater. Like, yo you are literally hating. You know you like this shit.’”

In response, however, the “Kiss Me Through The Phone” rapper interpreted J. Cole’s comments as him continuing to be a “hater” today, and he took to Twitter to air out his grievances.
