Soulja Boy Fires Back At Plies’ Copyright Lawsuit: ‘You Need To Change Your Name To Lies’

Plies‘ recent lawsuit claiming that a number of artists ripped off the beat from his song “Me & My Goons” has prompted an angry response from one of them: Soulja Boy.

The suit claims that Soulja’s “Pretty Boy Swag” infringes on the copyright for “Me & My Goons,” and says that GloRillaMegan Thee Stallion and Cardi B did the same on their hit song “Wanna Be.”

Soulja Boy responded to the suit with a long rant, captured by Live Bitez.

    Check it out below.

“‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your [beat],” Soulja began. “So you wanna wait ten years to try to sue a n-gga for a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, Plies? You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a muthafuckin’ liar… You know that ain’t your muthafuckin’ beat, bro.

“That beat is all original music. You only could sue somebody if they sample your song and don’t get it cleared. That is not a sample, bro… [The songs] don’t sound nothing alike.

“That’s some police shit. You trying to sue a n-gga? I thought you was gangsta. I thought you was a goon… You gonna go snitch to the white man: ‘He stole my beat!’ Police-ass n-gga, you a snitch.”

The specific point of contention in the lawsuit is the use of what Plies is terming an “infrared countdown beat” used by both Soulja and years later Glo, Meg and Cardi (the latter of whom appears on the remix of “Wanna Be”).

After the suit was filed, producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat, who has worked extensively with Megan (though did not make the beat for “Wanna Be”), hit back at Plies on social media.

He claimed that Dallas rapper Lil Wil’s 2007 hit ‘“My Dougie” predated all of the aforementioned songs, even Plies’, and that the producer of that track, Big E (not to be confused with the wrestler of the same name), is credited on “Wanna Be.”

“‘My Dougie’ came it in 2006, ‘Me & My Goons’ came it in 2008. Big E the producer of ‘My Dougie’ is credited on ‘Wanna Be,’” he wrote.

He added: “For the Record ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is a remake of ‘My Dougie’ as well. Soulja Boy is on the ‘My Dougie’ Remix. ‘Me & My Goons’ literally not even the single for that Plies album.”

    1. The Glorilla is literally the same, the others all have one key off or they cut the sound quicker. Interesting to see how it will be interpreted. But all the songs use that same beep sound.
