Snoop Dogg has long been talking about his upcoming Dr. Dre-produced LP Missionary, the first full album the two have done together since the rapper’s debut; but now the Doggfather is teasing a tour as well.
In a Forbes article published on Sunday (September 29), the S-N-double O-P told the outlet, “Music is my foundation. That’s the root of who I am, so I can never run away from that.”
The article continued, mentioning “talk of a tour as early as next year,” though those are the writer’s words and not Snoop’s — a direct quote is not cited.
A release date for Missionary has not been announced, but Dre said this summer that the pair were aiming for November, to coincide with the anniversary of their last collaborative project, 1993’s Doggystyle.
“As soon as we finish this I have to go downstairs and start mixing. I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening [bumps his fists together],” he told Entertainment Tonight last month. “I’m on song number 11 as far as the mixes go. I have to be done and delivered by September 1st to have a November release.”
The Aftermath founder even let slip one high-profile guest on Missionary while teasing a star-studded supporting cast which may include himself.
“I actually did a couple of songs, I’m not sure if one of them’s gonna make it or not. I produced the entire album but vocally, I think, only one of them is gonna make it,” he shared.
“There’s a song, we have Sting on the song. Man, it’s an amazing roster of artists that’s on this album. I shouldn’t have revealed that, to be honest.”
Snoop Dogg first announced Missionary during an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast in 2022.
“You’re the first one to hear this: me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months,” Snoop told the sports personality. “It’s produced by Dr. Dre, it’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.”
When Smith asked: “Why that name?” Snoop replied: “The first album was Doggystyle,” prompting a roar of laughter from the ESPN host. “That is beautiful. I love it, man,” Smith commented.
For some reason they’ve been hyping this album up for years now instead of releasing music from it.. it should’ve dropped a long time ago.. I don’t even care about it anymore tbh
I expect it to actually drop this November on the anniversary of doggystyle… but i don’t expect it to be great. Dr dre hasn’t been involved with anything really amazing in a long long time. Last album Compton is average at best, forgettable, and only us hiphopheads even knew of it’s existence. His music for GTA isn’t good. It’s not garbage. But it’s not something I’d ever listen to. You know the style i like for modern dre? Go look up “Don’t Trip” by The Game. Dre and Cube both kill, and the production is smooth and enjoyable.
Nobody wants to hear a Snoop album. He’s already on every other commercial and tv show and has been forced onto us nonstop for some weird reason. Besides, he stopped writing his own rhymes twenty years ago. He’s just a mascot.
