Smif-n-Wessun & Pete Rock’s “Monumental” Due June 28, Raekwon Featured

Amidst a busy 15th anniversary, Duck Down Records has released albums from Kidz In The Hall, Skyzoo & !llmind, Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx and others. However, two of the most anticipated albums came courtesy of Pharoahe Monch‘s third solo album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) and Smif-n-Wessun‘s Pete Rock-produced LP, Monumental.

HipHopDX has learned through E1 Entertainment that both releases, initially planned for October and November respectively, have been postponed to February.

Last week, it was announced that both acts would be touring, along with Buckshot, Skyzoo and Sean Price as part of Duck Down’s 15th Anniversary Tour. (September 12)

UPDATE: According to E1 Entertainment, Duck Down’s distributor, Monumental by Smif-n-Wessun & Pete Rock, is presently been delayed to March 8. Duck Down Records has yet to confirm this.

    (December 12, 2010)

UPDATE #2: According to Amazon, Pharoahe Monch’s W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) is now scheduled for March 22 release.

    (January 6, 2011)

UPDATE #3: Today, Duck Down Records confirmed that Smif-n-Wessun & Pete Rock’s Monumental is planned for June 28 release. The album will feature Raekwon, Styles P, Bun B, Memphis Bleek and Hurricane G.

    1. Whoever is in charge of the W.A.R. release — FUCK YOU. I’ve been waiting for this record for YEARS–many of us have. Here’s a lesson–don’t fucking tell us a release date unless that’s the motherfucking day you’re going to release to record.

Fucking bastards. What the fuck is this? 2012?!?!? Is this for real? TWO years from now? It was supposed to be released this month.

    2. That’s a typo, right? This coming February would be 2011. So if the albums are done, they wouldn’t be held for a year and a half… would they?

    3. Damn that scared me for a second, first i’m not getting two great albums and i also lost a year.
DX check your shit before you post it.

    4. fuck label companies. pushing back release date fucks over the artists sales, lets the hype ware off, and annoys the fuck out of fans. WHY DONT YOU DO THE TOUR AFTER THE ALBUMS?

      1. Ya, im sure pharoahe, smif n wessun and duck down are gonna take business advice from some chat forum teenager. Shut the fuck up, ya don’t know shit

      2. actually he’s not far off the mark. I think labels are petrified of releasing hip hop records these days, aside from the sure sellers. As legendary as these artists are, and how much hype is behind their projects, neither will be big sellers, we all know this. This fact creates hesitation on the labels side of things and results in push backs.
If you don’t believe that look at the major labels dealing with previously successful artists who have had significantly declining sales since their debuts, ie. Game and Young Jeezy. Don’t tell me their projects didn’t have hype, but the label sees the writing on the wall, and now these are both on the shelf.

    5. DAMN IT! Pharoahe’s album was number 1 on my radar. First no Joell Ortiz album, then no R.E.K.S. album, then no sign of J. Cole’s album droppin anytime soon, Lupe’s label troubles. SHIT. On top of that Jay Electronica will never release a fuckin album in his life….like Papoose.

      1. LOL! I’m with you on the Jay Electronica bit. Watch J. Cole’s shit get pushed back too….He’s simply too lyrical for some of these retarded rec execs. They still think shit like Soulja Boy sells.

      2. Whoa, let’s not get ahead of ourselves on comparing Jay Elect with Papoose. Papoose is a clear definition of a mixtape rapper, the guy has YET to release his own project, whereas you can actually look on iTunes for Jay’s projects like Style Wars and Act I. Plus, Pap was under Flipmode at a time the crew wasn’t doing ANYTHING. Jay Elect is under ROC Nation now and best believe Jay-Z will get an album or two out of him.

      3. yeah i’m a jay supporter and all but, i haven’t seen anything from roc-nation yet.

yeah there’s a ton of material floatin around but that shit is just “to build up hype” for their artist.

when are the official projects/albums coming out?

      4. only time will tell what kind of a trap signing with roc nation really is, my guess it’ll be a bigger curse than signing with aftermath. Not sure if Kanye’s there or not, but with jay and rihanna there most of the cats of the label will never see a release date unless the label is happy with the buzz generated by their singles. J Cole already tested the radio market with solid singles and still couldn’t pop even with all his momentum behind him, they won’t release his record till he has a certified hit. Mark my words, on roc nation, unless your album is ready by the due date and your singles are killing the charts nobody will have anything released cuz they’ll keep looking to Jay and riri for albums that actually have a proven track record.

    6. It’s worth the wait. Both of these albums will be classics. Duck Down’s keeping real hiphop alive, best label right now

    7. So sad about WAR probably the best album of the year
      hopefully
kanye will be dropping and J.Cole will have to fill my lyrical appetite
Not a bad 2010 so far though
