The Detroit trio of Jay Dee, T3 and Baatin, known collectively as Slum Village, made some waves in early 2000 with “Fantastic Vol.II.” The aspect of the album that garnered the most attention was the production, which was handled by Jay Dee. Coincidentally or not, Jay has since left the group to pursue a solo career. He released the critically acclaimed “Welcome To Detroit” as part of the Beat Generation Series and has become a sought after producer.
Slum Village has remained a trio though with another Detroit artist in Elzhi joining the fray. The new LP will be titled “Trinity – Past, Present & Future” and will feature beats from Jay Dee, Hi-Tek, Scott Storch, Young RJ Ne’Astra, Black Milk, Waajid, and Karriem Riggins.
There is no hard feelings between Jay and Slum Village, he remains close with the group and still has input on the direction of the album. Baatin says that “Slum Village is the fluid entity, the core members will always be us three (Jay Dee, T3, and Baatin). We may take different roads at different times but we’ll all be involved in Slum.” No date has been given yet for the albums release.
